Student Detained at Calaveras High School after He Reportedly Talked of Bringing Gun to School

San Andreas, CA...Today, 3-6-18, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the Calaveras High School located in San Andreas for a report that a student had mentioned bringing a firearm to campus. It was reported that during a discussion regarding lock down drills and school safety, the 15 year old male student was heard making statements similar to “I guess I better not bring a gun that day”. This same student was overheard talking about guns in another conversation. School staff was made aware of the comments and notified the Sheriff’s Office.

Avery, CA...Vallecito Union School District Schools on Two Hour Snow Delay. Today, March 2nd is a two hour late start. All schools and bus routes will start two hours late today. Hazel Fischer / Michelson = 10 am - 2 pm. Avery Middle School = 10:45 am - 3 pm

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County students in fourth through twelfth grades will showcase their scientific experiments and demonstrations at the 33nd Annual Calaveras County Science Fair on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Calaveras River Academy/Mountain Oaks School gymnasium at 150 Old Oak Road, San Andreas. The Science Fair is funded in part by a grant from the Teichert Foundation. The public is invited to explore Science Fair projects from 9-9:45am and the demonstration area throughout the morning.

Angels Camp, CA...The Bret Harte Academic Decathlon team earned enough points to dethrone the Bears from their six-year run as Region Champions. "This year was a difficult theme," stated Co-Coach Jennifer Truman. "But we have a strong group of hard-working and intelligent young ladies who were able to make their mark." And make their mark they did wearing 37 medals back to the Pond. Led by six seniors, four of whom are veterans, the Bullfrogs out scored four other schools to take the Team Regional Trophy home.

Burlingame, CA...California’s public school educators will join a nationwide celebration of reading on Friday, March 2, as they meet up with parents, city officials, and celebrities at events statewide for the National Education Association’s 21st annual “Read Across America” extravaganza. Millions of people across the nation will take part in the reading celebration, as will thousands of California educators and students. The event is always held on or near the March 2 birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss, Theodor Seuss Geisel.
