Student Detained at Calaveras High School after He Reportedly Talked of Bringing Gun to School

San Andreas, CA...Today, 3-6-18, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the Calaveras High School located in San Andreas for a report that a student had mentioned bringing a firearm to campus. It was reported that during a discussion regarding lock down drills and school safety, the 15 year old male student was heard making statements similar to “I guess I better not bring a gun that day”. This same student was overheard talking about guns in another conversation. School staff was made aware of the comments and notified the Sheriff’s Office.

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County students in fourth through twelfth grades will showcase their scientific experiments and demonstrations at the 33nd Annual Calaveras County Science Fair on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Calaveras River Academy/Mountain Oaks School gymnasium at 150 Old Oak Road, San Andreas. The Science Fair is funded in part by a grant from the Teichert Foundation. The public is invited to explore Science Fair projects from 9-9:45am and the demonstration area throughout the morning.

Bret Harte Academic Decathlon Team Wins Regionals

Angels Camp, CA...The Bret Harte Academic Decathlon team earned enough points to dethrone the Bears from their six-year run as Region Champions. "This year was a difficult theme," stated Co-Coach Jennifer Truman. "But we have a strong group of hard-working and intelligent young ladies who were able to make their mark." And make their mark they did wearing 37 medals back to the Pond. Led by six seniors, four of whom are veterans, the Bullfrogs out scored four other schools to take the Team Regional Trophy home.
