Angels Camp, CA...The Bret Harte Athletic Hall of Fame selection committee is pleased to announce the selection of 12 individuals and one team for induction into the Hall of Fame as the class of 2021. The 2021 Induction Ceremony will be deferred and combined with the 2022 Induction Ceremony tentatively scheduled for the Fall of 2022.

Ebbetts Pass Fire District Instructed a River & Flood Water Rescue Class:

Arnold, CA...This week we had 8 students go through a 40 hour River and Flood Water Rescue Technician class. They learned how to safely and efficiently remove victims from floods waters, rapids, vehicles stuck in moving water etc. As a final project we removed about 75' of 1" steel cable from a rapid below Sourgrass that was creating a hazard for rafters and kayakers

Good News: Mild COVID-19 Induces Lasting Antibody Protection

St. Louis, MO...Months after recovering from mild cases of COVID-19, people still have immune cells in their body pumping out antibodies against the virus that causes COVID-19, according to a study from researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Such cells could persist for a lifetime, churning out antibodies all the while. The findings, published May 24 in the journal Nature, suggest that mild cases of COVID-19 leave those infected with lasting antibody protection and that repeated bouts of illness are likely to be uncommon.

EBMUD Discovers Trove of Fossils in Mokelumne River Watershed

Valley Springs, CA...The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) and California State University (CSU), Chico, announce the discovery of a trove of five- to ten-million-year-old fossils in the Mokelumne River watershed. The discovery was made in July 2020 by EBMUD Ranger Naturalist Greg Francek on patrol in 28,000 acres of protected land in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, which serves as the primary drinking water source for 1.4 million people in the East Bay.
