03/21/2020 - Tempest – Celtic rock - Lief's annual birthday bash!
Celebrating more than 30 years of Celtic Rock!
Since forming in 1988, Tempest has delivered a globally-renowned hybrid of high-energy Folk Rock fusing Irish reels, Scottish ballads, Norwegian influences and other world music elements. The last 30 plus years have seen the San Francisco Bay Area based act release seventeen critically acclaimed CDs and play more than 2,500 gigs. It’s also enjoyed an evolving line-up that’s enabled musicianship and creativity to rise with each new member.
Hailing from Oslo, Norway, founding member and lead singer/electric mandolinist, Lief Sorbye, is recognized as a driving force in the modern folk-rock movement. He started Tempest after years of touring and recording on the folk circuit. San Francisco fiddler Kathy Buys brings her international award winning playing to the Tempest stage. Her experience performing world-fusion music with high energy dance bands combined with many years of playing Irish traditional music in America and Ireland makes her a perfect fit for Tempest. And straight from Bologna, Italy, we welcome the big, rich bass playing talent of Mirco Melone. Mirco has a diverse background in rock, jazz and ethnic music, and holds an advanced degree from Italy’s Classical Music Conservatory. And recently relocated to the Bay Area from Chicago, we are delighted to introduce Kevin Florian’s progressive rock guitar and lush stage antics to our fans! Cuban-born drummer Adolfo Lazo, an original Tempest member, thickens the band’s sound with inventive rhythms, and rock-steady drumming.

When Sugaray belts out a song, you not only hear it, you feel it. The excitement in the room is palpable when he takes the stage; he is a superb vocalist and entertainer. His dynamic voice is large just like the man. With his old school vocal style, echoes of Muddy Waters, Otis Redding and Teddy Pendergrass can be heard. 02/19/2020 - James Dalton Medical Office Completed in Angels Camp! Ribbon Cutting & Dedication Feb. 19th!
Angels Camp, CA...Hometown health care is now state-of-the-art with completion of the James Dalton Medical Office. The new facility is part of Mark Twain Medical Center’s network of clinics and specialty centers serving Calaveras County communities. The facility at 590 Stanislaus Street has been approved for licensing by the State of California and will welcome its first patients on February 13, 2020. “This is a community effort,” says Doug Archer, President and CEO of MTMC. “It has taken over ten years to make this a reality and it would not have happened without the perseverance of the Mark Twain Medical Center Foundation. Through its generous donors, the Foundation has contributed $2.6 million for the $7.5 million project.”

“The power of caring for one another should never be overlooked,” he adds. “This project illustrates the power of friends and neighbors working together to better their community.”

“It is fitting that the facility is named for the late James Dalton, long-time Foundation board member with a vision for expanding local health care services. The Dalton Family are generous donors to this project.”
As a comprehensive health care clinic services will include primary care, including women and pediatric services, along with orthopedics, tele-psychiatrics, counseling services, laboratory and diagnostic imaging.

“The James Dalton Medical Office will offer residents of Angels Camp and neighboring communities on the Highway 4 corridor the opportunity to establish local health care relationships with primary care physicians,” Archer notes. “That is a key first step in achieving and maintaining good health.”

02/10/2020 - Kindness Week in Calaveras County
San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors to Proclaim the week of February 10th through February 15th, 2020 as Kindness Week in Calaveras County and further deem the County as a Random Acts of Kindness Zone

DISCUSSION/SUMMARY:
Seeds of Kindness was formed in 1994 in Angels Camp, spearheaded by Jim & Judy Bergantz, then owners of Bergantz Nursery.
A small group of local residents are working together to encourage and promote random acts of kindness throughout Calaveras County. In 1995, the Angels Camp City Council passed a proclamation that Angels Camp is a Kindness Zone. We are asking the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors to pass a county-wide Kindness Zone proclamation as well.

Our goal is to purchase 8,000 “Pass It On” kindness ribbons and support materials. This year, as in the past, the Seeds of Kindness project will encourage and work with Calaveras County schools, organizations and businesses to create an increased awareness for being kind. The light blue ribbons will be distributed county-wide; when a ribbon-bearer sees an act of kindness being done, they are to sign the back of the ribbon and pass it on. The idea is that the ribbons will encourage acts of kindness throughout the county.
Kindness donations will be used to purchase three miles of light blue ribbon, (to be displayed in and around buildings), 8,000 “Pass It On” ribbons and a large kindness banner for each elementary school in the county.

We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the 2020 Ripples of Kindness Project in Calaveras County February 10-15, 2020. To learn more about random acts of kindness activities, visit the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation website at www.actsofkindness.org.
