Paralympic Archer Jeff Fabry Visiting Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp As Team for Tomorrow Ambassador

Groveland, CA...Four-time Paralympic archer, Jeff Fabry (Tulare, California), will visit the Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp at Camp Tuolumme Trails in Groveland, California, today, June 16, as an athlete ambassador for the United States Olympic Committee’s Team for Tomorrow program. Beginning at 2:30 p.m., Fabry will speak to kids ages 6-17, members of the free camp, about the importance of living an active and healthy lifestyle, and share his story of determination and commitment to returning to the podium for a fourth-straight Paralympic Games this summer in Rio. Following his presentation, Fabry will join the children for an archery demonstration and skills clinic. In addition, Fabry will donate a sport package to the Muscular Dystrophy Association camps, including a variety of equipment, such as hula hoops, basketballs, jump ropes and cones.

Sonora, CA...Sonora Regional Medical Center’s 20th Annual Golf Classic was a big success thanks to the contributions of sponsors, donors, players and volunteers. This year’s event was held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Pine Mountain Lake Golf Club in Groveland. Seventy sponsors and 133 players helped raise more than $59,000 to support Project HOPE, a twice-a-week, free health clinic at the Crossroads Shopping Center and InterFaith.

Two Missing Hikers Donna Hallberg & Mark Smallwood (Updated....Found Safe)

Pinecrest, CA...(Update...The search for the missing hikers has resumed this morning.
Multiple agencies including Stanislaus County, Calaveras County, Alpine County, Monterey County, Contra Costa County, El Dorado County, Marin County, Mono County, Forest Service and the National Guard have joined the search. The rescuers have extensive training for inclimate weather and treacherous terrain. The Stanislaus County Sheriff's helicopter is in the air this morning flying over the trail area and surrounding areas with two more additional helicopters joining the search at 9 AM. The emigrant wilderness search area is very large with various terrains including steep granite, meadows, valleys, creeks and snow. There are 4 scent dogs and 1 trail dog being utilized in the search. Updates will be posted throughout the day.) Donna and Mark also have a black and white dog with them, pictured below. The two experienced hikers left on Sunday the 12th to hike the Crabtree Trail Head to Lake Gem and the Long and Deer Lakes near the Dodge Ridge, Pinecrest area. They parked their gray Chevy Tahoe at the Crabtree trail head and have not returned to their vehicle.

Angels Camp, CA...Another Hole in One at Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort in Angels Camp!! Greenhorn Creek Men’s Club Member, Steve Armknecht scored a HOLE IN ONE Monday, June 13th. Steve drained his Ace on Greenhorn hole #15, from the White Tee’s, 120 yards with a Callaway eight iron and a Callaway golf ball!! Congratulations Steve!! We all enjoyed the drinks!!
Court Case Conundrums Back at Columbia State Historic Park

Columbia, CA...Join park staff and costumed volunteers in a live reenactment and solve a historical case during the interactive History’s Mysteries event four Saturdays this summer. This year’s mystery begins with a theft investigation which leads to some unusual findings. After watching the incident occur, visitors will have the opportunity to interview the witnesses and participate in a trial to find out what exactly happened and who is responsible.
Brice Stations's Hilltop Matures Into A Great Concert & Entertainment Venue

Murphys, CA...Brice Station's Hilltop Amphitheater has matured into a wonderful place to take in a concert, event or a play. We stopped by their Hilltop Concert Series last Saturday and was reminded by the soulful songs of Bill Welles how lucky we are to have a healthy and vibrant local music scene with some incredible performers. We are also blessed to have beautiful, peaceful and relaxing venues such as Brice Station to enjoy an evening out. There concert series continues on with the Little Fuller Band on June 25th, The Hot Dark on July 2nd, Patrice Pike on July 23rd. From July 29th to August 27th it is Shakespeare's As You Like It" on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Concerts return on September 3rd with Edge Of The West and Chains Required finishes up on September 17th.
Estate Sale to Benefit the Diana J. White Cancer Institute

Sonora, CA...An estate sale will be held at the home of George and Diana White, June 24, 25 and 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 19279 2nd Garrotte Road in Groveland. Proceeds will benefit the Diana J. White Cancer Institute at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Last year, George White gave a generous estate gift in honor of his late wife, Diana. The gift, estimated at over $3 million, was directed to benefit the Cancer Center at Sonora Regional Medical Center. At the time of his gift, White said, “I am happy to make this estate gift to the hospital in her memory because I know it will help people in our community. That would have made Diana very happy.” To honor and recognize their substantial contribution, the Cancer Center will be renamed the Diana J. White Cancer Institute when it moves to its new location in the Medical Center’s Pavilion, scheduled to open in 2017.

Angels Camp, CA...Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) awarded Career and Technical Training scholarships to a total of six high school students during recent award night events. Three Calaveras High School students, two Bret Harte High students and one student from Mountain Oaks will each receive $1,500.
