U.S. Citizenship Ceremony at Glacier Point

Yosemite, CA...From Yosemite National Park....“Oh, say can you see,….” 50 people from 15 countries?! On September 19 that’s how many people became naturalized U.S. citizens during a ceremony at Glacier Point. In case you missed it, this video captures the special event which was the 10th of its kind conducted in Yosemite. Countries of origin included the United Kingdom, Australia, Bulgaria, Zambia, China, India, and Mexico. Welcome and congratulations!

Moon Bash Demolition Derby Coming to Calaveras County Family Fun and Hard-Hitting Action will be a F

Angels Camp, CA...Get ready to watch the mud fly and see metal crunch at Moondog’s Moon Bash Demolition Derby September 30th at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp. “This is going to be hard-hitting action the whole family will love,” said Jeremy Leonard, owner of Whiskey Slide Productions, LLC, in Angels Camp. Leonard has teamed up with Guy “Moon” Mullins of Moondog Motorsports out of Modesto to bring the night of entertainment to the Gold Country. Mullins produces the ever-popular destruction derby at the Calaveras County Fair every May. Fans will recognize his signature heats. Drivers from throughout the West Coast, and some local favorites, are expected.

Murphys, CA...On September 23rd Bret Harte, Calaveras, and Summerville FFA chapters attended the 21st annual Concours De Elegance at Ironstone Vineyards along with the 4H Organizations. The event hosted over 300 antique vintage cars as well as vintage trailers, motorcycles, and wooden boats in an effort to raise money for the FFA and 4H organizations statewide. FFA members educated the public about the FFA organization, California Agriculture and specific leadership opportunities available to them through agricultural education.

Led by engaging and entertaining guides, “Tales of the Roundhouse” participants will hear the real life and death tales of past railroad workers and passengers who lost their lives in ghastly accidents, gruesome train wrecks and sometimes by cold-blooded murder.

Kathy Frost Named Sheriff's Secretary of the Year

San Andreas, CA...Congratulations to our very own Calaveras County Sheriff's Tech Kathy Frost who was named Sheriff's Secretary of the Year by the California State Sheriff's Association. Sheriff Dibasilio had nominated Kathy and was able to surprise her with this honor at a conference in Palm Springs.

Traffic Update....Hwy 4 Closure on September 27th from Lake Alpine to Highland Lake Road

ALPINE COUNTY — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close eastbound and westbound State Route 4 (SR-4) on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, for pavement repair work. The closure will be in effect from closure gate #2 (east of Lake Alpine) to Highland Lake Road beginning at 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. There is no local detour available. Motorists should consider SR-88 and SR-108 as alternate routes and should allow additional travel time to use the alternate route.

Angels Camp, CA...Register Now for the 4th Annual Angels Camp Gold Run on September 24th. A 5K/10k with a 1 Mile kids Fun Run. Route travels through the historic Gold country town of Angels Camp CA. Proceeds benefit Mark Twain Elementary. Enjoy the Sierra Foothills on a 5k/10k race through the historic town of Angels Camp. Proceeds benefit the students of Mark Twain Elementary School. The race will kick off with a Kids 1 Mile Fun Run followed by the 5k & 10K races. All races begin in downtown Angels Camp at the Visitor’s Center. After race festivities and award at Utica Park until 2pm with music, food, drinks, games and raffle prizes. More details to come! Hope to see you there! Tickets range from $10-$35.
