Angels Camp, CA...Margaret Mary Cairns, my paternal grandmother, was born and raised in Ireland. She began working in a tartan factory at age eight or nine and when she married, she used this skill to make clothing for her eight children and bring in a little money from sewing for others. She married at a young age, and when her husband, my grandfather, Gavin Baxter, came to the United States, she stayed behind to raise their one daughter until he could find employment and earn enough money to send for them. This lasted ten years!

Plymouth, MA...Today marks an historic milestone. Its story is a real-life adventure marked by what some regard as pure luck while others label as miraculous. Four hundred years ago—on March 16, 1621—an English-speaking Indian from the Abenaki tribe strode into the new settlement of Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. He greeted the astonished Pilgrims and requested a beverage brewed from fermented cereal grains.

Glasgow, Scotland....People with high levels of emotional intelligence are less likely to be susceptible to ‘fake news’, according to research at the University of Strathclyde. The study invited participants to read a series of news items on social media and to ascertain whether they were real or fictitious, briefly describing the reasons for their answers. They were also asked to complete a test to determine their levels of emotional intelligence (EQ or emotional quotient) and were asked a number of questions when considering the veracity of each news item.

Hey Good People!! Great Conditions & More Pure Mountain Fun Heading to Skyline Bear Valley!
Posted by: thepinetree on 03/14/2021 09:15 AM
Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! A partly sunny day is ahead as the oncoming weather system will bring cloudy skies ahead of tonight’s expected snowfall. We look to pick up 7-11″ tonight with another 2-4″ falling Monday into mid-day. Cold air aloft will certainly give Mondays pow riding a similar feeling like the storm 4 days ago. Lite pow, face shots and repeats throughout the day. Our tactic of sitting on the lower Mtn for a day last week to let things stabilize will most likely happen again Monday as the opportunity to keep the snow on the hill and not strip it worked well for us and the public. Sunny and cooler temps will follow into Thursday before the next cycle of pow arrives. Coverage is great out on the hill with 100% terrain open so get out and ski/ride and enjoy the Pure Mtn Fun ethos! Stay tuned……..
Celebrate the Irish with March Wine Specials from Black Sheep Winery!
Posted by: thepinetree on 03/14/2021 09:38 AM
Murphys, CA... Black Sheep Winery arrived in Murphys with the 1984 harvest. From that first harvest we produced our 1984 Amador Zinfandel. The wine was styled in a big, bold way like nobody else could do. That's what makes us Black Sheep; we're different from the rest of the flock. We feature small batches of limited release wines handcrafted from high quality grapes grown in Calaveras and Amador Counties. We produce about 2,500 cases of wine per year, specializing in Zinfandels and Rhone varietals.
