California’s woman veterans are part of a long and proud legacy of military service. Throughout the years, women went to great lengths to serve alongside their male counterparts. Historically, many disguised themselves by dressing as men, leaving behind their homes and families to pledge their lives and allegiance to this nation. Women sacrificed so much to serve their country, yet far too often, they have done so without the recognition and gratitude they deserve.

Division of Boating and Waterways Offers $4.25 Million in Grants to Enhance Public Safety and Protect California’s Waterways |

Sacramento, CA... The Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is now accepting grant applications to help local public entities enhance safety on California’s waterways, and protect them from abandoned and unwanted vessels. The application period for the competitive grant programs, Boating Safety and Enforcement Equipment (BSEE) and Surrendered and Abandoned Vessel Exchange (SAVE), is open from March 15 through April 16, 2021. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the grant guidelines and participate in an applicant workshop.

Sierra Pacific Industries Training will be open on March 16th and March 17th, 2021. The Friends of the Fair Meeting will be hosted on March 17th, 2021 at 6 p.m. The Buck Stop Gun Show will be hosted on March 20th and March 21st 2021.

Murphys, CA...In 2019 Murphys rolled out the green carpet for their annual celebration of all things Irish. The signature event is the Irish Day Parade that rolls onto Main Street at 11am every year (Except in Covid-19 Shutdowns). As usual the parade this year had entrants for young and old and the Grand Marshall in 2019 year was Ric Rayan the "Walking Man of Murphys". Below we have links to 210 photos. Angels Camp, CA...Margaret Mary Cairns, my paternal grandmother, was born and raised in Ireland. She began working in a tartan factory at age eight or nine and when she married, she used this skill to make clothing for her eight children and bring in a little money from sewing for others. She married at a young age, and when her husband, my grandfather, Gavin Baxter, came to the United States, she stayed behind to raise their one daughter until he could find employment and earn enough money to send for them. This lasted ten years!

Plymouth, MA...Today marks an historic milestone. Its story is a real-life adventure marked by what some regard as pure luck while others label as miraculous. Four hundred years ago—on March 16, 1621—an English-speaking Indian from the Abenaki tribe strode into the new settlement of Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. He greeted the astonished Pilgrims and requested a beverage brewed from fermented cereal grains.

Arnold, CA...This morning snow has bought Narniaesque vistas to our area. At the Arnold elevation the system started with heavy and we ended up getting 6 inches of snow or so at our location. Photo proof below...

Arnold, CA...Detailed forecast from NWS Sacramento for West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada. Today, Snow showers. Highs 21 to 36 higher elevations...32 to 42 lower elevations. Snow accumulation of 2 to 5 inches. Prevailing southwest winds up to 10 mph with gusts to around 25 mph. Tonight, Mostly cloudy in the evening then clearing. At lower elevations, a slight chance of snow showers in the evening. At higher elevations, a chance of snow showers in the evening, then a slight chance of snow showers after midnight. Lows 12 to 27 higher elevations...23 to 31 lower elevations. Little or no snow accumulation lower elevations...up to 1 inch higher elevations. Prevailing north winds up to 10 mph shifting to the northeast after midnight.

Glasgow, Scotland....People with high levels of emotional intelligence are less likely to be susceptible to ‘fake news’, according to research at the University of Strathclyde. The study invited participants to read a series of news items on social media and to ascertain whether they were real or fictitious, briefly describing the reasons for their answers. They were also asked to complete a test to determine their levels of emotional intelligence (EQ or emotional quotient) and were asked a number of questions when considering the veracity of each news item.
