USFS Extends Developed Campground Closure on Stanislaus and Other National Forests

Sonora, CA... USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region, extended the developed campground closure on 12 National Forests in California, including the Stanislaus National Forest, to provide consistent COVID-19 mitigation response in accordance with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Stay-at-Home Orders. These regional orders will be in effect through Jan. 29, 2021.

Reckless Driver Accelerates Backwards into Deputy Vehicle and Gets Arrested in Tuolumne County

Tuolumne County, CA... Monday night, just after 8 pm, Deputy V. Lee observed a pickup truck driving recklessly in the Big Hill, Columbia area. Deputy Lee attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the driver, later identified as 39-year-old Matthew Carlile of Sonora, fled. A short pursuit ensued through the Gunsight Road and Quail Mine Road area. Matthew attempted to turn onto Four Wheel Drive but was unsuccessful due to the angle of the turn.

San Andreas, CA... Meet Gabriel - a handsome shorthaired white and orange older junior tabby. Over-the-top friendly and a real cuddle bug, Gabriel has yet to meet a human he doesn’t like. He adores being held and absolutely melts in your arms when picked up. Gabriel must be an indoors only kitty, though - not only because his light coloring will attract predators but also because he has a penchant for climbing tall trees and needs help in getting down. In fact, that is how he found his way to the shelter after being rescued. Gabriel would do well in most any household where he can get the love and attention he craves.

Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! As the approaching system moves closer today we’ll see cloudy skies and a lite SSW wind. Warm air ahead of the storm will keep snow elevations around 6500′ initially then early Monday morning the cold air aloft will creep in and bring snow levels down to the 3500′ range. 7-11″ of new snow is expected to fall during the day Monday with another 3-7″ falling Monday night before the system heads East. Winds will increase for Monday as the surface gradient tightens so average winds values will be in the 20-30mph range with gusting to the mid 50’s throughout the day. High pressure and dry weather return Tuesday before the next pulse shows face on Wednesday. Stay tuned……..

Bear Valley, CA...The Bear Valley Adventure Company (BVAC) is excited to offer cross country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and tubing experiences for the 2020/2021 winter season. Since COVID-19 is alive and well, we have instituted some new rules in order to keep everyone safe. Help keep the Bear Valley winter wonderland open by supporting the following changes: General: Do not visit BVAC if you are feeling ill; this includes our groomed trails. Masks covering your nose and mouth are required inside the store, and anywhere social distancing (minimum 6 feet separation from others) cannot be maintained. On busy days, such as weekends and holidays: Be prepared to wait outside the store to maintain healthy spacing indoors. Plan to dress accordingly.
