Calaveras County Students Gifted with ‘You Matter’ Backpacks Just in Time for Summer Break

Calaveras County, CA...A total of 2,436 ‘You Matter’ backpacks are being distributed through schools to students in grades TK-5th (some 6th), packed with essentials and goodies. These backpacks mark the first year of this new partnered program. Headed up by the Calaveras-Mariposa Community Action Agency (CMCAA), the hope is to continue the ‘You Matter’ program each year moving forward.
CCWD Calls on Customers to Reduce Water Usage by 20%

San Andreas, CA...California is in the midst of a multi-year drought. The first three months of 2022 were the driest on record, and unfortunately there was not enough precipitation in the Spring to make up for the long stretch of dry weather. The California State Water Resources Control Board has adopted emergency regulations, which determined that all urban water suppliers in the State must adopt “Stage 2” of their Water Shortage Contingency Plans, with mandatory water conservation of 20%, regardless of their local water conditions. On June 8th, Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) followed the direction of the State and formally adopted the “Stage 2” of their water shortage contingency plan. As a result, CCWD is calling on all customers to reduce water usage by 20%.

Food will be served at 5:30 & music starts at 6:00. No entry fee required. Outside food and beverage prohibited. Please bring chairs or blankets, seating will be limited. Summer Starts with the Calaveras Arts Council’s Music in the Parks

San Andreas, CA...One of the great joys of summer in Calaveras County is the Music in the Parks concert series presented by the Calaveras County Arts Council. Ten bands will play in ten towns throughout the county, from the foothills to up-country and the in between. Each Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., a different town will host a concert.

Sonora, CA...Christine Narita has been missing since Sunday afternoon June 5, 2022. As of this morning at 7:30 am, she has not been found. Law enforcement and a very small group have been searching for her. There will be a meeting today, June 7, 2022, in Columbia in the large parking lot behind the Fallon House Theater at 10:30 am to organize a search effort.
