Hey Good People! The December 13th Bear Valley Update from Mattly Trent

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/13/2017 08:29 AM
Bear Valley, CA...December 13th, 2017 46F @ 5am SSW winds 0-7mph Base Total 7" Season Total 2017/18 - 17". 38F at the base area currently and the wet bulb temps for snow making are aligning currently as I look outside my office window and the meadow snow guns are making snow. The high today looks to come in around 60F or so and East winds will again be in effect. The High pressure ridging we keep talking about is going to be around for the next week as the current models all agree on that yet there is a slight chance of some weather next week around Wednesday possibly(a slim chance but possible). Make sure to stay up to date by checking out our web page and Facebook pages and remember, we're about "Pure Mtn Fun" !!!!!

Restoring the Original Intent of the Wilderness Act to Allow Bicycles in Wilderness Areas

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/13/2017 10:29 PM
Washington, DC...The House Natural Resources Committee today voted to pass H.R. 1349 by Congressman Tom McClintock. The bill would restore the original intent of the Wilderness Act to allow bicycles and other forms of human-powered locomotion in wilderness areas at the discretion of local land managers. Bicycles were originally permitted in wilderness areas from the time Congress enacted the Wilderness Act until 1977 when federal bureaucrats began adopting blanket prohibitions against their use, closing Wilderness areas that are now equivalent to the entire land area of California.

Seasonal Road and Trail Closures on Stanislaus National Forest Begin Dec. 15

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/12/2017 02:21 PM
Sonora, CA...Seasonal road and trail closures on the Stanislaus National Forest begin Dec. 15 and will remain in effect until April 14, 2018. The STF Motor Vehicle Use Map indicates which roads and trails will be closed and may be picked up at any ranger district office, or by visiting the STF’s maps webpage at http://go.usa.gov/x8ysh. Please note that roads identified in the MVUM as being open may be hazardous due to local weather conditions. For example, the wind event experienced by the STF last week caused many trees to fall, some of which may be blocking forest roads or trails. Drivers and hikers are urged to be prepared for hazards caused by fallen trees.
