Murphys, CA...On June 6th, 2019 The Angels Murphys Rotary Club held their annual award ceremony at the Historic Murphys Hotel During the ceremony, several awards were given out to various members of the county. Sgt. Chris Dorsey received the Rotary’s 2019 “Officer of the Year Award”. Sgt. Dorsey was chosen to receive this honor due to his high level of dedication and his unwavering commitment to the citizens of Calaveras County. He is a natural leader in the department who displays exceptional standards of professional conduct. He is skilled at making sound decisions when under pressure and takes decisive action when needed.

Arizona Man Arrested, 361 Marijuana Plants, 138 Processed Pounds & 3.9 Pounds of BHO Eradicated

Mountain Ranch CA...On June 7, 2019 the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant for illegal marijuana cultivation at a residence in the 8000 block of Cave City Road, Mountain Ranch. During the service of the search warrant an indoor marijuana grow and BHO concentrated honey oil operation was located. Investigators located a marijuana processing room and a butane honey oil (BHO) conversion lab in a barn near the main residence. Deputies seized 361 marijuana plants growing in the four (4) greenhouses, 138 pounds of processed marijuana, and 3.9 pounds of concentrated honey oil.

Would Be Burglar Caught in Sonora

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Office..."A would-be burglar captured on camera, was caught thanks to a tip from a community member who recognized him. On May 23rd, 29-year-old Cody Wright of Jamestown, attempted to break into a home through a side door of an attached garage while the homeowners were inside. After failing to break in, Wright entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway and rummaged through it. Luckily, he was caught on home surveillance.

Sheriff DiBasilio Enhancing Inmate Worker Program

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Jail Inmate Work Program continues to expand in functionality and scope. Beginning in May of this year, Sheriff Rick DiBasilio expanded the Inmate Worker Program by implementing the county’s first-ever female inmate work crew. Just as with the male inmate work crew, the females, under direct supervision of a female correctional officer, are allowed to perform necessary fire prevention, debris removal, and landscape services outside of the jail in exchange for time-served credits.

California Sues Opioid Manufacturer Purdue Pharma for Practices and Role in Opioid Crisis

Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today announced that California is suing Purdue Pharma L.P., Purdue Pharma Inc. (Purdue), certain of its affiliates, and Dr. Richard S. Sackler, former President and board member of Purdue, for unlawful practices in the marketing, sale, and distribution of opioids. The lawsuit alleges that Purdue’s illegal and misleading marketing and sales practices played a major role in contributing to the nationwide opioid crisis. It further alleges that Purdue created a public nuisance through its marketing and sale of opioids and misled healthcare professionals and patients about the addictive nature of opioids and their potential for abuse and diversion.

Vehicle Pursuit & Driver Arrested on Felony Evading, Reckless Driving, Animal Cruelty & More

Arnold, CA...On June 2, 2019, at approx. 9:30 AM hours a Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy initiated a vehicle enforcement stop on a vehicle for a minor traffic infraction on Mandel Road near White Pines. The driver failed to yield to the marked patrol unit’s emergency lights and siren and accelerated away from the deputy. The suspect continued at a high rate of speed fleeing westbound on Highway 4, forcing several motorists off the roadway. As the suspect vehicle turned onto Avery Sheep Ranch Rd, the driver threw a dog out the driver’s window. The dog was able to scurry off the road.

Victim Identified in California State Prison, Sacramento Homicide

Folsom, CA...California State Prison, Sacramento officials are investigating the death of a 63-year-old inmate as a possible homicide. The victim has been identified as Charles Anthony Ross. On May 30 at 2:16 p.m., officers saw inmates Joshua Kerr and Nicholas Mangelli in an altercation with another inmate on the B Facility exercise yard. Officers immediately responded, using pepper spray and a blast grenade to quell the violence. No staff injuries were reported.
