Sacramento, CA...In response to the recent wave of hate incidents targeting Asian Americans, California lawmakers today approved $1.4 million in state funding to bolster the research and reporting work underway that is tracking this concerning trend. The Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus (APILC) lauds the efforts of Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, who secured the appropriation as part of AB 85, a fiscal measure providing additional resources for California’s ongoing pandemic response.

All Covid Positive Jail Inmates Have Recovered & Rehoused |

Sonora, CA...Our previously reported 7 positive cases within the jail have all recovered and since been rehoused with their respective cohorts. This morning, we were made aware of 2 positive cases. The two inmates have been placed in quarantine. All close contacts have tested negative but have been placed in isolation under the direction of public health. We will closely monitor and continue regular testing, while working closely with Tuolumne County Public Health to conduct all track and tracing.

Unfounded Report of Shooter Created Chaos in San Andreas this Afternoon |

San Andreas, CA...On 2/19/21 at about 1229 hours, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received third party information of an active shooter at the Public Health Building in the 700 block of Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas (near the Mark Twain Medical Center). Law Enforcement Units including CCSO Deputies, Officers from the California Highway Patrol, and Calaveras County Probation responded to the call, arriving on scene within minutes. Once on scene, active shooter response protocols were followed and all people were evacuated from the building and area before it was checked by law enforcement.

Sonora, CA...The Sonora Police Department welcomes our new Police Lieutenant, Jennifer Hannula. Lt. Hannula was hired on January 23rd, but was officially sworn in last night during her introduction to City Council. Lt. Hannula comes to us from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department, where she spent the last 24 years of her law enforcement career. Welcome aboard!

Arsonist Arrested for Arson & Other Charges |

Sonora, CA...On February 16, just before 6 A.M., our office received a call of a subject who had started a fire in a hotel room in the 300 block of S. Washington St. When our officer arrived on scene, he contacted 58-year-old Robert Anson of Sonora. The Officer located burned items in the hotel room, including a lampshade. Luckily the fire was quickly extinguished before our Officer arrived on scene.

Dating App Meeting Leads to Charges of Sexual Assault, Kidnapping, False Imprisonment & More.. |

Sonora, CA...Thursday afternoon, our office received a concerning report of a potential sexual assault which had just occurred. With information provided by the reporting person, our office was able to locate the victim with GPS tracking. Present with the victim when deputies made contact was 45-year-old Chad Vanhulzen of Sonora.
