Murder Charges Dropped Against Volcano Man |

Jackson, CA...The Amador County District Attorney’s Office announced yesterday that murder and attempted murder charges against Volcano resident, Jeffrey Johnston, 66, have been dropped at this time due to insufficient evidence. Johnston was charged with the murder of Volcano resident Vanessa Plew, 39, and the attempted murder of Jared Wilkinson, 44.

Columbia Women Arrested After Major Injury DUI Crash |

Sonora, CA...On May 20, 2021 at approximately 7:15pm, 37-year-old Andrea Marshall of Columbia was driving her 2005 Kia Sportage northbound on State Route 49, approaching Old Sonora Columbia Road, along with her passenger 31-year-old Anthony Reibin of Sonora. Ms. Marshall allowed her vehicle to travel off the roadway where it crashed into a tree. Both Ms. Marshall and Mr. Reibin sustained serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to Adventist Health Sonora for treatment.

Ione, CA...Porter was driving her vehicle south on SR-124 approaching the intersection of Buena Vista Rd. Duvall and Schweer were driving their motorcycles south on SR-124, to the rear of Porter. Porter slowed her vehicle and began to make a left turn onto Buena Vista Rd. Simultaneously, :Duvall was beginning to pass Porter on the left side. Duvall collided into the rear of Porter's vehicle causing him to be ejected, Schweer was following Duvall and collided into Duvall's motorcycle, causing him to lose control where his motorcycle overturned and lie was ejected. This collision is still under investigation.

Sonora, CA... The Sonora Police Department would like to introduce you to our new Community Service Officer Joelyne Lemas. CSO Lemas was born in Fremont, California, and was raised in Modesto. She moved to Tuolumne County with her Fiance in 2013 and married him in 2014. The couple welcomed their son in 2017, who is a 6th generation Tuolumne County Resident. She has visited the motherlode throughout her life and has many fond memories of the area, including summer camping with her father around Pinecrest Lake.

Combining Departments May Double or Triple Costs & Increase Liability Says Coroner Raggio |

Angels Camp, CA...We sat down for a few minutes Monday morning with Calaveras County Coroner Kevin Raggio. The county is discussing combining the Sheriff and Coroner Departments. Roughly half of California counties have done so. Conventional wisdom dictates that combining departments may drive cost savings. In Calaveras County however the Coroner says it may double or triple yearly costs and necessitate significant capital improvement costs if the county has to construct facilities to house the department.

Tuolumne Sheriff's Department Releases Names of Men Who Perished at God's Bath |

Deadwood, CA...The two men who tragically perished over the weekend have been identified as 25-year-old Rinoel Villena of Daly City and 20-year-old Benedict Rozario of Pittsburg. The two men were part of a larger group who visited Gods Bath. Mr. Villena, Mr. Rozario, and a third person jumped into the water. Due to the swift moving current and whirlpool, Mr. Villena and Mr. Rozario were overtaken and unable to surface. The third person was luckily able to get free from the current and surface down stream.
