Calaveras County, CA...On Tuesday 3/6/12, Calaveras Sheriff received a report from a county resident who was scammed out of approximately $2,600. The victim received a phone call from a subject who sounded like their grandson. The victim was told that their grandson had caused a vehicle accident, was now in jail in Canada, and needed money wired to them. This incident serves as a reminder to beware of phone scams and stay vigilant not giving identifying information over the phone or sending money without verifying the validity of claims.....

Folsom State Prison Riot Under Investigation |

Folsom, CA...On Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at approximately 11:47 a.m., a riot involving seventy inmates occurred on the main yard at Folsom State Prison. Correctional Officers utilized pepper spray, less-lethal riot control rounds, and three warning rounds from the Mini 14 to quell the riot. There were no serious injuries to any of the staff or involved inmates.... |

Arrest Made in Homicide Investigation at Shiva’s Motel |

Modesto, CA....At 3:01 PM today Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Shiva’s Motel in the 700 Block of S. 9th Street for a subject who had been shot. When deputies arrived to the motel parking lot they found a black male adult with a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead on scene. During the investigation Jose Angel Cervantes 22 y/o of Modesto turned himself in to detectives. Cervantes was interviewed and has been arrested for homicide. Detectives continue to work on leads and interview witnesses. They know there were more witnesses to this homicide and ask them to come forward and speak with detectives..... |

Modesto, CA... At 3:01 PM today Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Shiva’s Motel in the 700 Block of S. 9th Street for a subject who had been shot. Jackson Couple Arrested for Robbery, Criminal Threats, and Assault with a Deadly Weapon |

Valley Springs, CA... On 02/16/12 at approx. 7:50 PM, Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 8503 Hautly Lane for a report of a physical altercation. Upon arrival they spoke with Eleanor Solo who reported that she had been assaulted by her son, Travis Solo (26) of Jackson, and Travis’ girlfriend Colleena Allee (37) of Jackson. According to Eleanor, she was inside her house when she heard someone at her front door. When she opened the door Colleena attacked her with a wood stick, striking her several times about her lower torso, causing bruises. She also struck Eleanor over the head with a metal deodorant can, causing injury to her head. The altercation resulted from an ongoing family dispute... |

Angels Camp, CA...On 2/15/12 at approximately 1:30 pm, Calaveras SherifPs Office Animal Services Division executed a search warrant at 4549 Red Hill Road and seized 15 horses due to neglect. No arrests were made at the time. Kimberly and Paul Paulden, owners and care takers of the horses, were contacted by Animal Services in September 2011 regarding skinny horses and were discovered to be caring for over 20 horses.
