Cause of Small Vegetation Fire Under Investigation

Mountain Ranch, CA...Multiple crews responded to a 1 1/2 acre vegetation fire on Wednesday at the 18000 Block of Jesus Maria in Mountain Ranch. Cause is under investigation. No injuries occurred. Total damages was $300 to include 1 1/2 acres of brush, timber and oak wildland, CAL Fire report is enclosed.

Sonora Burglary Arrest

Sonora, CA...On Saturday around 11:00 am Deputies Rod Hobbs, Matthew Stuart, and Carl Benson went to an address on Yerba Santa Drive in an effort to locate 27 year old Kasey Allen Questo who had felony warrants for his arrest. Questo had been staying in a room there for a short time. As they pulled up to the house, Questo fled the area unseen. Vehicle Stop Ends in Arrest

On 1/7/12 at about 2406hrs Calaveras Deputies, including Deputies from the Calaveras Sheriffs Department Special Enforcement Team (SET) conducted a vehicle stop on Gold Strike Road in San Andreas near the mobile home park. Deputies contacted the driver who was identified as Jeremy Jones 39 out of Stockton. Jones had an active felony parole violation warrant for his arrest. Quad Accident Sends Two to Hospitals

Dorrington, CA...Megan Almash, 17 from Gilroy was driving her 2006 Polaris Quad on Forest Service Road 6N71Y. She was traveling westbound and as she negotiated a downhill, left hand curve, the bright sunlight impaired her vision. Without slowing Ms. Almash continued in a south westerly direction off the road..

CHP New Years Weekend Statistics

San Andreas, CA....Statewide, the CHP arrested 1270 drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence compared to 961 for the same period last year. 25 people died in automobile accidents in the state this year, compared to 24 people for last year. In Calaveras County, 1 person was arrested by the CHP between 6:00 pm Friday and 11:59 pm Sunday. Last year the CHP arrested 0 people. Our officers handled 5 accident compared to a total of 3 accidents last year. And for the second year in a row we had 0 fatalities for the county....

SAN ANDREAS - The number of fatal accidents and DUI arrests over the holiday weekend were higher this year compared to last year.
