Sonora Police Department Get More Than They Bargain For

Sonora, CA...Just prior to noon on Saturday, January 14th, the Sonora Police Department was called to the Grocery Outlet market for a report of a shoplifter. When Officer Bowly arrived, he was directed to a female, later identified as 30-year-old Stephany Marie Shelman of Sonora. Shelman initially provided Officer Bowly with a false name and denied being in possession of stolen property.

Fisticuffs Ensued After Stolen iPhone Leads Victims To Thief On Hwy 108

Sonora, CA...On Saturday morning just before 9:30 AM, Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a physical fight on Highway 108 near Woods Way. Jesse Newton, a suspect in a stolen vehicle reported to CHP that morning, was located by the owner of the vehicle. The victim and his friend caught up with Newton who was walking and carrying the victim's black bag. While the victim went to get a cell phone to call law enforcement, Newton retrieved a pair of metal knuckles and struck the friend in the back of the head. The friend then punched Newton and held him on the ground until law enforcement arrived.

Jerod Latina, 27 From Angels Camp Perishes In Fatal Collision On Pool Station Road

Angels Camp, CA...On 01/14/2017 at an undetermined time of the night or early morning, Latina) was driving Vehicle his Chevrolet northbound on Pool Station Rd., north of State Route 4. For an undetermined reason, Latina turned his vehicle to the left causing it to travel off the west side of the roadway. His vehicle overturned and collided with a tree. For an undetermined reason, Latina was located outside his vehicle and had succumbed to his injuries.

Cutting Line May Have Turlock Man Doing Time

Pinecrest, CA...On Sunday evening around 5 PM, The Sheriff's Office received a report of a road rage incident that occurred at Dodge Ridge. A man later identified as a36 year old Turlock, threatened to kill the victim and pointed what the victim believed was a firearm at the him. The road in the area was backed up and many cars were passing illegally. The Turlock man was trying to pass and the victim was in the way, preventing him from doing so.

Justice Department Announces Findings Of Investigation Into Chicago Police Department

Washington, DC...The Justice Department announced today that it has found reasonable cause to believe that the Chicago Police Department (CPD) engages in a pattern or practice of using force, including deadly force, in violation of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution. The department found that CPD officers’ practices unnecessarily endanger themselves and result in unnecessary and avoidable uses of force. The pattern or practice results from systemic deficiencies in training and accountability, including the failure to train officers in de-escalation and the failure to conduct meaningful investigations of uses of force.
