Sheriff Rick DiBasilio Promotes Jim Macedo to Undersheriff & Chris Hewitt to Captain

San Andreas, CA...Sheriff Rick DiBasilio is pleased to announce the following promotions: Jim Macedo, Undersheriff, Chris Hewitt, Captain. Undersheriff Macedo has been with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office for over 24 years. Mr. Macedo holds degrees in both Biology and Criminal Justice Management. He is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy. Mr. Macedo was named the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office employee of the year in 1998. He has been recognized by the California State Assembly and the California State Senate for his efforts in combating crime and serving victims. Mr. Macedo was also awarded the Medal of Valor for his actions while serving in the Patrol Division. In 2017 Mr. Macedo won the California State Sheriff’s Association’s “John Sully Second in Command of the Year Award.” Undersheriff Macedo has either worked in, supervised or managed every division, unit and team in the Sheriff’s Office during his career.

US Customs & Border Patrol Agency Experiences Record Number of Apprehensions/Inadmissible Family Units

Washington, DC...Tuesday, March 5, U.S. Customs and Border Protection released statistics on Southwest Border apprehensions for fiscal year 2019 which demonstrate a new and growing challenge on the Southwest Border. Family Unit Aliens (FMUA) are crossing our borders in record numbers. This fiscal year to date, CBP has seen a more than 300 percent increase in the number of family units apprehended compared to the same time period in fiscal year 2018. Today, family units and unaccompanied alien children (UAC) make up 60 percent of apprehension that have occurred along the southwest border and are predominantly from Central America, namely Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

The Search Continues for Shannon David Scott

Wilseyville, CA...The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the disappearance of Shannon David Scott. Mr. Scott reportedly departed for a medical appointment at the Sacramento Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center on the date of his disappearance. It was reported that he left the area of Wilseyville (Calaveras County) at about 11:00am on August 29, 2018. His appointment was scheduled for 1:30pm, however, Mr. Scott did not arrive to his appointment. He was scheduled to return to Wilseyville on August 29, 2018.

Inmate Walks Away from Mount Bullion Conservation Camp

Mariposa, CA...California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are searching for a minimum-security inmate who walked away from Mount Bullion Conservation Camp in Mariposa County on March 1. At 4:20 a.m. staff discovered inmate Joseph Speakman missing and officers immediately began a search of the camp. Speakman was last seen at 3:15 a.m. during an inmate count. CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety, CAL FIRE, the California Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies have been notified and are assisting in the search.

Search Warrant Served & Arrest Made at Missing Man’s House

Wilseyville, CA...On 2-25-19 CCSO Detectives served a search warrant in relation to financial crimes at a residence in the 4000 block of Blagen Blvd, Wilseyville. The previous resident of this location, Shannon Scott (age 66), has been a reported missing person since 8-31-18. Scott and his vehicle, a white colored 2014 Fiat bearing California purple heart license plate #9038PH, have not been seen since he was reported missing in August of last year.
