San Andreas, CA...The annual Calaveras County “Drop the Drugs” event is coming up on Saturday, October 24, 2020, from 10 am-2 pm. There will be two locations; The Calaveras County Office of Education, 185 South Main Street, Angels Camp, and the Toyon Middle School, on Highway 12 between San Andreas and Valley Springs.

CHP Sonora Investigating Suspicious Death of Matthew Winks

Jamestown, CA... On October 3rd, 2020 at approximately 6:50 PM, CHP officers responded to a hit and run traffic collision in the area of 7th Street and Fifth Avenue in Jamestown. Upon their arrival, they located the body of 42-year-old Matthew Winks of Jamestown. After further investigation, officers began gathering evidence leading them to believe that Mr. Winks death was suspicious.

Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Team Continues Eradication Efforts

Rail Road Flat & Mountain Ranch, CA...On September 28th and 30th, 2020, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Unit served two unrelated search warrants for illegal marijuana cultivation in the 400 block of Blossom Lane in Railroad Flat and in the 7000 block of Old Miners Way in Mountain Ranch. This was the 5th time the site on Blossom Lane has been eradicated in the last three years. A combined total of 460 marijuana plants and 78 pounds of processed marijuana was seized. The combined estimated value of the seized marijuana exceeds $375,000.

Governor Newsom Selects Justice Martin Jenkins for California Supreme Court

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today announced his nomination of Justice Martin Jenkins (Ret.) for Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court. Justice Jenkins has held several prominent state and federal judicial positions throughout his career. He would be the first openly gay California Supreme Court justice and only the third African American man ever to serve on the state’s highest court. It has been 29 years since an African American man has served on the California Supreme Court.

K9 Thor Apprehends Wanted Man Near Chicken Ranch Casino

Jamestown, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept..."Our dispatch was advised 38-year-old Casey Worley of Oakdale was at the Chicken Ranch Casino. Casey was wanted on felony and misdemeanor charges. When deputies arrived, Casey immediately fled out of the casino, disregarding all commands and attempts to stop. Deputy Skellenger utilized his partner, K9 Thor, to chase down and apprehend Casey. After receiving medical attention, Casey was booked into the County Jail for his misdemeanor and felony warrants, resisting arrest, and possession of methamphetamine."
