California Joins Multistate Lawsuit Against Facebook For Monopolistic Behavior

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/09/2020 12:03 PM
Sacramento, CA... California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today joined a multistate lawsuit against Facebook for allegedly violating federal antitrust laws by purchasing emerging competitors to maintain a monopoly. The tech giant’s acquisition of Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014 left users with fewer options for social networking services, reduced the quality and variety of privacy safeguards, and increased user-facing advertisements. The lawsuit, filed in parallel with a similar suit from the Federal Trade Commission, requests an injunction to stop Facebook from engaging in further anticompetitive conduct and to give states advance notice of certain mergers and acquisitions by the company.

Upon arrival, the deputies learned that two juveniles began fighting on Sequoia Avenue, Valley Springs. While the two were fighting, a juvenile spectator began recording the incident using a cellular device. James Robinett Jr. (18 years of age San Andreas) walked up to the spectator recording the incident, produced a revolver, and pointed it at the victim’s chest. Robinett Jr. demanded the juvenile erase the recording of the altercation. The juvenile feared for his life and complied with Robinett Jr’s demands. During the investigation, deputies learned that Robinett Jr’s friend was one of the juveniles fighting and did not want other people to see the recording.

Campo Seco, CA...On December 6th, 2020, at about 1100 AM, a Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy was patrolling in the Campo Seco area when he observed a motorcycle traveling at about 70MPH, crossing over double lines to pass vehicles, and had no visible rear license plate. The deputy initiated a vehicle enforcement stop on the motorcycle driver by activating the emergency lighting and siren. The driver, later identified as Bradly B. Turner (33 years old from Sacramento) looked back at the deputy and gestured toward him. Turner then accelerated to about 75 MPH in an attempt to evade the deputy.
