Attempted Vehicle Theft Leaves Pair Arrested & Released

Sonora, CA...On June 6th at approximately three o’clock in the afternoon, our office received a phone call of an attempted vehicle theft in progress in the area of Downtown Plaza. Officers arrived on scene and located Roni Hatton, 29-years-old, and John McAdoo, 28-years-old, running from the scene. After a brief foot chase, Hatton and McAdoo were taken into custody without incident. During a search of McAdoo after he was arrested, he was found to be in possession of metal knuckles.
COVID-19 Released Inmate Goes on Crime Spree Leading to High Speed Chases

San Andreas, CA...Joseph Robert Westbrook (25 years old, Valley Springs) was released from the Calaveras County Jail on April 13th, 2020, due to the judicial zero bail order concerning Covid-19. Shortly after his release, he was identified as being responsible for multiple thefts and at least one burglary in the Valley Springs area. On May 21st, deputies were successful in obtaining a warrant from the Calaveras County Superior Court charging Westbrook with PC 459 Felony Burglary, PC 530.5(A) Felony ID theft and PC 664/484G Attempted Forgery.

New York, NY...From the New York PBA..."PBA President Patrick J. Lynch presided over a fiery press conference today in which he and officials from 20 other unions — representing more than 200,000 law enforcement officers from across the state — condemned the nationwide attack on police officers and their rights. “We, as professionals, are under assault,” said Lynch, surrounded by more than 200 police and correction officers. “And this in a backdrop of a night when we had seven shootings (in Brooklyn) in seven minutes.”

Peaceful Black Lives Matter Protests in Angels Camp Friday Afternoon

Angels Camp, CA...The Black Lives Matter protests at the corner of Hwy 4 & Hwy 49 on Friday afternoon was peaceful and a busy one. When we stopped by shortly after 5pm the crowd had already started to fade. According to Calaveras Sheriff Rick DiBasilio who we spoke with at the event the crowds were much larger between 3-5pm. He was not only glad the protests were peaceful but that members of the community had the opportunity to make their voices heard.
Governor Newsom Announces New Policing and Criminal Justice Reforms

Sacramento, CA...After a week of engagement with civic leaders and law enforcement in the wake of the killing of George Floyd and demonstrations nationwide, Governor Newsom announced his support for new policing and criminal justice reforms. Governor Newsom will work toward a statewide standard for policing peaceful protests and ending the carotid hold. This announcement follows the work California did last year to enact the nation’s strongest standard for police use of deadly force.
Sonora Man Shoots at Vehicle after Cannabis Oil Sale Goes Bad

Sonora, CA...During the 1 o'clock hour on May 29th, our office responded to the 100 block of Snell St. for a reported shooting Upon arrival, Officers contacted 18-year-old Brenton Heddon-Boner in the area. After investigating and gathering witness statements, it was determined that Heddon-Boner had allegedly tried to sell concentrated cannabis oil to a subject in a vehicle. The subject in the vehicle took the concentrated cannabis oil and drove away without paying for it. Heddon-Boner pulled out a loaded .45 caliber handgun and fired one round at the vehicle. Luckily no injuries were reported as a result of the shooting. Heddon-Boner was found to be in possession of almost 228g of concentrated cannabis oil that was pre-packaged for sales.
Suspect Concealed Items, Showed a Weapon in Robbery from Local Business

Sonora, CA...On 06/01/2020 during the 7 P.M. hour, Officers responded to a business in the 100 block of Old Wards Ferry Rd. for a report of a theft. 24-year-old Sonora resident Shae Green, allegedly concealed items in his pockets before leaving the store. A store employee that attempted to confront Green about leaving the store without paying for the item, Green pulled up his shirt, revealing a firearm concealed on his person to the employee. Green had left the area prior to Officer’s arrival.
Angels Camp, CA...Effectively immediately, the curfew in Angels Camp has been lifted. We want to thank our community and all participants for remaining peaceful. Thank you to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol San Andreas, Tuolumne Sheriff’s Office, Sonora Police Department, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, CalFire, American Legion Ambulance, and Angels Camp Fire Department for their assistance.
Santa Cruz Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller's Life Was Taken in Ambush Saturday Afternoon

Santa Cruz, CA...From the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office..."On Saturday June 6th at around 1:30 p.m., we received a call about a suspicious van parked off the road near Jamison Creek, Boulder Creek. The caller saw guns and bomb making materials inside the van. When deputies arrived, the van was seen leaving the area and tried to follow it, finally finding it at a home on Waldeberg, Ben Lomond. As deputies began investigating, they were ambushed with gunfire and multiple improvised explosive devices. Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller was shot and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Another deputy was either shot or struck by shrapnel and struck by a car as the suspect fled the property. We are hopeful the deputy will recover.
