Don't Let a Mine or Cave Selfie Ruin Your Life

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/11/2022 01:50 PM
San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public about mine and cave safety. Recently there has been a renewed public interest in the exploration of abandoned mines and uncommercialized caves. However, as exciting as it might sound, cave and mine exploring is inherently dangerous. Caves and mines each contain unique hazards and the potential for major accidents. Each year, a number of people are killed in abandoned mines. Mines are especially treacherous and contain the following safety hazards: Loose or falling rock, unstable ground, old explosives, rotten “shoring”, cave-ins, hazardous chemicals, poisonous air/ lack of oxygen, water-filled pits, dangerous animals or insects, and many more.

Attorney General Bonta Urges EPA to Expand Clean Water Act Restrictions on Nation's Waterways

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/08/2022 09:18 AM
Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Rob Bonta, leading a multistate coalition along with New York Attorney General Letitia James, urged the Biden Administration to repeal a Trump-era rule drastically curtailing protections under the Clean Water Act. Under the 2020 rule, more than half of all wetlands and at least 18% of all streams across the United States were left without federal protections. Western states like California were even harder hit, with 35% of all streams deprived of federal protections as a result of the 2020 rule. In the comments, the coalition supports the Biden Administration's proposed regulation to restore the 1980s definition of "waters of the United States" and urges the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Army Corps) to take swift action to develop a more expansive definition that is consistent with science and the law, addresses the impacts of climate change, and serves environmental justice communities.

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/07/2022 07:20 PM
Sonora, CA...On Tuesday, at approximately 1130 p.m., Deputy Sorini pulled over a white Chevy Tahoe on Stockton Street in Sonora for multiple vehicle code violations. Deputy Sorini conducted a records check of the three occupants of the vehicle and found that the driver of the Tahoe, 55-year-old Janet Weissbeck, had a misdemeanor warrant for her arrest, and one of her passengers was on California Department of Corrections (CDC) parole.
Deputies searched the Tahoe and found several items of drug paraphernalia and a 9 mm round of ammunition. A records check of Weissbeck showed she had a prior felony conviction and was not allowed to possess ammunition. Deputies searched the occupants of the vehicle and found a small bag of methamphetamine in Weissbeck’s pocket.
