Public Policy Institute Releases Report on Recidivism of Felony Offenders in California |

Sacramento, CA...California has undertaken numerous corrections reforms in the past decade—including public safety realignment in 2011 and Proposition 47 in 2014—in hopes of reducing the prison population, maintaining public safety, and improving persistently high recidivism rates. These reforms lowered incarceration levels, and in their aftermath, crime rates have fluctuated. Recidivism rates provide another important window into public safety and the effectiveness of correctional interventions under these policy changes.

Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page Technical Difficulties |

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is currently experiencing technical difficulties with its official Facebook page. Facebook has informed the Sheriff’s Office that due to the high visitation rate of the of the Sheriff’s Office page, the Sheriff’s Office is now required to complete additional security measures. In the interim, the page has been locked by Facebook. The Sheriff’s Office is attempting to meet the demands of Facebook, however, the Calaveras Sheriff’s Office Facebook page will be inactive until this situation is resolved.

Governor Newsom on Restrictive New Gun Laws & Background Checks for Ammunition Purchases |

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today heralded the implementation of Proposition 63 gun-safety reforms. Approved by California voters in 2016, Proposition 63 is a package of provisions to keep guns and ammunition out of the wrong hands, including first-in-the-nation required point-of-sale background checks for the purchase of ammunition.

Major Injuries to Merced Man in Collision With Sonora Police Department Vehicle |

Sonora, CA...On June 22, 2019, at approximately 12:30 am, Jaycee Eddie Alameda a 26-year-old male from Merced was riding a 2008 Honda motorcycle westbound on State Route 108, west of S. Washington Street at an unknown rate of speed. At that location, Sonora Police Department Officer Thomas Brickley, was parked on the right shoulder of westbound State Route 108, west of S. Washington Street with his rear amber warning lights activated. Officer Brickley was dispatched to another call and activated the patrol vehicle’s blue and red emergency lights.
