Valley Springs Man Arrested for Allegations of Child Pornography

Valley Springs, CA...Yesterday, 9-25-17 at about 9:00am, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Detectives assisted agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the service of an arrest warrant on Nicholas Watkins, age 29, of Valley Springs. Watkins was taken into custody at a business in Mountain Ranch without incident and turned over to FBI agents.

Two Arrested in Sonora for Drug & Other Charges

Sonora, CA...Just before midnight on Saturday, 21-year-old Xavier Benzel of Sonora drove into the parking lot of AM/PM on Pesce Way in Sonora. Deputy Knapp happened to be in the same parking lot and knew Benzel had a warrant for his arrest for driving on a suspended driver's license.

1700 Pounds of Marijuana Eradicated in Mountain Ranch

Mountain Ranch, CA...On 9-21-17 at about 9:15am, members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant at a location in the 8000 block of West Murray Creek Road, Mountain Ranch. The property is not registered as a commercial medical cannabis cultivation site through the Calaveras County Planning Department.

Kathy Frost Named Sheriff's Secretary of the Year

San Andreas, CA...Congratulations to our very own Calaveras County Sheriff's Tech Kathy Frost who was named Sheriff's Secretary of the Year by the California State Sheriff's Association. Sheriff Dibasilio had nominated Kathy and was able to surprise her with this honor at a conference in Palm Springs.

Justice for Cici Protesters Attacked by Unidentified Assailants

Angels Camp, CA...On September 23, 2017 at approximately 1:25 PM, officers from the Angels Camp Police Department were dispatched to a reported fight in front of the Pet Bath House located at 172 South Main Street. Witnesses of the fight reported that a male and female approached the "Justice for Cici" protesters in front of the Pet Bath House and began yelling at the protesters to leave the area. The unknown female flipped over the protesters table and struck a female protester numerous times with a closed fist. Another protester ran to the first protester's aid and began yelling at the unknown female to stop. The female then began yelling at the second protester, and struck the second protester two times in the face. Both protesters suffered minor injuries.

Tuolumne County Sheriff's Deputies Investigating Suspected Homicide in Big Oak Flat

Groveland, CA...From the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Dept...."Update 2:30 PM: Detectives are conducting interviews and will be processing the scene. No arrests have yet been made. Sheriff's Deputies are on scene at a residence on Black Road in Big Oak Flat, investigating a suspected homicide. An adult man is confirmed deceased."

Man Sought In Connection With Suspected Homicide in Big Oak Flat (Updated)

Groveland, CA...Have you seen this man? The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office is looking for Elton Redick who is known to use several names including Chris Reed on Facebook and social media. He is a suspect in a homicide that occurred yesterday morning on Black Road in Big Oak Flat. This man is described as 6'2" tall, 180-190 pounds, graying hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, black and gray camo shorts and black flip flops. He has a tribal style tattoo that wraps around his forearm and a number tattoo on the inner part of his calf.

Three Arrested After Pursuit of Possible Robbery Suspects

Valley Springs, CA...On 9-24-17 at about 0100 hours, a Calaveras County deputy patrolling the Wallace area noticed a Ford Mustang travelling eastbound on Highway 12 swerve off and on the roadway, and then come to a stop in the road. The deputy initiated a traffic enforcement stop, at which time the suspect vehicle accelerated and fled towards Valley Springs, circling back towards San Joaquin County via Highway 26.

San Andreas, CA...Tomorrow morning, Saturday September 23, 2017, deer and bear hunting season opens for our area. This is just a public service announcement for awareness of an increase of people in the woods wearing camouflage and carrying weapons. Many public lands throughout Calaveras County are utilized by a variety of users including hunters, nature enthusiasts, pedestrians, bicyclists, equestrians, off highway vehicles, and motorists. Please be respectful of others. Reckless or unsafe behavior will not be tolerated. Be prepared. Be safe.
