Bear Valley Music Festival Issues Casting Call for a Donkey! |

The Bear Valley Music Festival, one of California’s premiere musical events, is looking for a very special donkey who has always dreamed of being in an opera. As one of its stellar presentations, the festival is staging Gaetano Donizetti’s hilarious comic opera “The Elixir of Love.” A central figure in the plot is Dr. Dulcamara, described as a picturesque and loquacious quack who peddles his wonderful remedy guaranteed to cure all ills. When asked if he also sells a love potion the charlatan quickly says yes and the die is cast.....

Calaveras Community Band Seeking Trumpet Players and Others |

If you play the trumpet and think it would be fun to join other local instrumentalists in entertaining appreciative audiences in parks and other venues throughout the county, the Calaveras Community Band has a seat and a hearty welcome waiting for you. The Band, that traces its history to California’s gold rush days, is beginning weekly Monday evening rehearsals in the gazebo of Murphys Community Park in preparation for its 2009 season. The first rehearsal, which will double as an informal Memorial Day concert featuring patriotic music, will be May 25 starting at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are always welcome at rehearsals and many people bring a picnic supper to enjoy in the park’s tranquil setting while listening to the band.....

The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce, together with the Calaveras Community Foundation will be hosting the Chamber's May Mixer at their new offices in Angels Camp next Thursday, May 28th at 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm. The Chamber and Foundation moved their operations to 52 South Main Street, Angels Camp last January and wish to invite all county business people to visit and network at this upcoming event....

Murphys, CA...Frogtown may be the center of the universe for Frogs but Murphys is the center for Hogs and Harley's on Frog Jump weekend. Every year what is normally a quaint, wine tasting mecca is transformed into our local version of Sturgis, Laughlin, or Daytona. Main Street was packed footpeg to footpeg from one end of town to the other. The Murphys Hotel garnered the most attention with their live music and other activities...

Frogtown, CA...We are streaming the Derby Now! The first heat has ended and we will restart the feed in right before the next heat at about 6:55pm. We have finished streaming for tonight! We will have tons and tons of pictures and video up for you of this year's great Calaveras County Fair and Frog Jumping Jubilee! Ryan Duke took this year's derby! He was even doing some hood dancing to celebrate. The replay of the main heat is enclosed...

Come one come all, enjoy our hometown celebration!....Did you know that in the late 1800’s the community of rancher’s in this area that were spread out far and wide would come together once a year for a huge family picnic? This yearly picnic became known as “Homecoming.” Hence the name of our wonderful community/family get together every year garnering the time honored name “Homecoming.”....
