Murphys, CA....One of Murphys historic buildings that once served as the entrance to an underground tunnel used to secretly move whiskey to the Murphys Hotel during Prohibition will once again have a spicy existence when a new business opens off Main Street on Saturday, May 30th. The Spice Tin, owned and operated by Patty and Jan Schulz, located at 457 N. Algiers St., will offer a wide range of exotic spices in addition to fine art and world treasures. The shop is behind the Sierra Nevada Adventure Co. at the corner of Main St. and Algiers.....

The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump will be held concurrently on Saturday, May 9 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire Department in Angels Camp. Ten Applicants to Vie for Jr. Miss Calaveras County. The Junior Miss Calaveras competition is open to 8th grade girls in Calaveras county. The contestants are judged on beauty, personality, pleasantness and ticket sales by a panel of judges. The winner will be announced during the Junior Frog jump and she will be presented at the Calaveras County Fair the next week......

Angels Camp, CA...The 2009 Saddle Queen contestants polished their public speaking at the latest Chamber Mixer. The contestants did a great job speaking for the good sized crowd at Camps. Saddle Queen program organizer Michelle Lee was on hand to introduce the program and the Reigning Saddle Queen Kayte Lowry led off the speeches with the field of Chelsea Flores, Catheryn Gulizia, Katelyn McConahy, Holly Moore, and Kathryn Stephens each taking their turn at the mike. The 2009 Saddle Queen Competition gets the arena events started this year at 1pm on Thursday. Make sure you attend and watch these girls in action...
