Valley Springs, CA....For many years, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) has conducted public boat excursions on our reservoirs each winter in search of bald eagles and other birds and wildlife. We are fortunate to once again offer this opportunity to our local community. Murphys, CA...Years ago, I worked for Ironstone Vineyards. The following story is one of my favorite memories of working in the Sierra Mountain region. It all happened in Calaveras County. It was a two and a half year gig. I intuitively knew going into it that it would only last two years. It managed to squeak it out to two and a half years, with the last six months really squeaking along… except for that howling wolf night. Perhaps that’s why I had to stay for the last six months, to live and tell this memorable story....

Murphys, CA...Staffed by a dedicated bunch of talented volunteers, planning for the 2014 Murphys Irish Day celebration is well underway. Under the egis of the Murphys Business Association (MBA), the signature event will be held Saturday, March 15, the Saturday closest to St. Patrick’s Day. “This event, which means so much to our community, would not be possible without the hard work by a number of people who give of their time for many weeks to make sure Irish Day continues to be one of the most popular happening in the Mother Lode,” says MBA president Jim Heryford....

Vonn to Miss Sochi Olympics |

Park City, UT...Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) announced Tuesday that she will not participate in the upcoming Sochi Olympics. Vonn, who had staged a comeback in December with an impressive fifth place finish in the opening Audi FIS Alpine World Cup super G in Lake Louise, felt that a subsequent racing injury in Val d’Isere, France from Dec. 21 made it impossible to stabilize her knee and be ready to safely ski again next month. Vonn will undergo surgery shortly so that she has sufficient time for recovery with a focus on the February, 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships at her home in Vail/Beaver Creek, CO, as well as the World Cup season....
