What’s Happening in Murphys this Week July 9 through July 18 |

Murphys, CA...Save the Date - July 19, 2014 - Murphys Homecoming Celebration & Duck Races - Murphys Community Club presents their annual Homecoming Celebration and Duck Races in the Murphys Community Park. The Calaveras Community Band will kick off the festivities with a concert starting at 11:30 a.m. Other activities will include the Old Timers Luncheon for local residents who are at least 70 years of age and have lived in the area for ten years or more. The Murphys Community Club will be selling hot dogs, potato salad, ice cream bars, wine and other beverages. There is no admission charge. There will be entertainment for the youngsters, booths sponsored by local organizations and the always entertaining Duck Races in the afternoon. Angels Camp, CA...Live Music and Farmer’s Market, Games and Good Old Fashioned Fun filled Utica Park on Friday July 4. The Angels Camp Commemorative Committee hosted the annual “Fourth of July Picnic and Salute to our Veterans” Presented by ACCC (Angels Camp Commemorative Committee), this year’s event will featured many activities geared toward children and adults. There was a Patriotic Dress Contest as well as a Table Decorating Contest and a special appearance by Smokey Bear. Live music and entertainment was provided by “The Governor’s Own” Military Band and local favorite, “Chains Required”....

After receiving a call from the TV show producers, Dave Vaccarezza, owner of Cal-Waste, was asked to provide a garbage truck in their quest or question whether they could successfully blow it up....

Mokelumne Hill, CA....The quaint village of Mokelumne Hill was packed on July 4th as the Annual Fourth of July Parade rolled down Main Street. It is an annual party as the extended Moke Hill family dons their red, white & blue and celebrates our nations birth and the history and community of Mokelumne Hill. This year the Grand Marshal of the parade was Mokelumne Hill's own Michael DellOrto. Not only was he the Grand Marshall but the firehouse, also known as his second home, was named in his honor. Mr. DellOrto is not only a former Calaveas County Supervisor but he has been and is a lynchpin of the community and helps keep it rolling along year after year....

Bear Valley, CA...Enclosed is the latest update from the Bear Valley Cooperative. They are now close to 70% of the way to their goals and have an agreement in place for a new management team to run the resort for the 2014/15 season. Time to get on board and help them cross the finish line!!!

Arnold, CA....Many signs point to an economic recovery picking up steam in the Arnold area. Many escrows have closed and a new wave of second home and hopefully some primary home owners have happened in the area. The era of multiple above price, and even some competing above price cash offers recently. These are great but for a real recovery to take hold local businesses have to feel the effects as well. A positive indicator on this front is a recent SNAC Paddlefest. This year they sold more boats the day of the event than anytime in the 17 year history of the event....

Angels Camp, CA....“Safe and Sane” fireworks are permitted inside the City limits of Angels Camp on private property. The Bret Harte High School Sports Center parking lot on Murphys Grade Road will be available to the public for fireworks on July 4 from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM. No public displays of fireworks are scheduled inside the City limits....
