Welcome Readers....We are entering the season of grilling and bar-b-cueing. Last year at this time I talked about the difference between the two and gave you some marinade recipes. Bear Valley, CA....The BVSAFE Summer Program is coming again soon! Their stellar counselors from last Summer are returning and a new is on board to supervise, guide and instruct the campers. Children ages 6~18 are welcome. Activities include favorites such as Lake Day, Rick Climbing, Kayaking, Field Games and Swimming. Additionally, new activities include arts and crafts, drama, orienteering, frisbee golf and tennis on the new courts......

Arnold Rotary Unveils its Frog~By Dave Webb

Arnold Rotary, in conjunction with Gary and Susan Hauer of Ace Hardware, unveiled their entry for this year in the county-wide frog contest. Rotary's theme is fishing, celebrating the many opportunities we have here in the Ebbetts Pass area to enjoy the outdoors. The frog may be viewed at Ace Hardware next to the Post Office. Bidding on the frogs will be on October 25th. Proceeds from this frog will be used to support local Rotary community project....

Hey Kids....Join The Bear Valley Library for a Summer Reading Program!

Bear Valley, CA...Join the Bear Valley Library for this fun event for children ages 4 to 13 years of age. For two weeks they will be meeting from 1~3:30pm to read, paint, and do crafts. Their reading theme this year is "Catch the Reading Bug." Vienna Watkins returns to teach the kids some watercolor techniques during this program. Program dates are June 23~30th and July 1~3. Forest Camping Opens for Memorial Day Weekend

Sonora, CA…The Forest Service today announced that most Stanislaus National Forest (NF) campgrounds and picnic areas will be open to accommodate visitors and campers for Memorial Day weekend. Due to lower than normal snow pack at higher elevations, Forest visitors will find 52 developed campgrounds offering 1,391 campsites open and available early this summer. ......

Angels Camp, CA...“Mediterranean Mystique” is the theme of the sixth annual Angel Auction, a benefit for two respected non-profits, the Calaveras Arts Council and Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation. The gala event will be held Saturday, June 28, at Camps Restaurant in Greenhorn Creek in Angels Camp. .....

This original watercolor donated by Maren Sampson of Mountain Ranch will be this year’s logo for The Angel Auction, a benefit for the Calaveras Arts Council and Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.

Sierra Logging Museum Opens Thursday At Noon!

White Pines, CA....The Sierra Nevada Logging Museum will be open to the public for the season on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 12 noon. They will be offering Private Tours at 4pm with a Private Reception following at 5pm. There will be a meeting and dinner at 6pm. The dinner will be Barbequed Chicken and Beans, $15 per person. They will be hosted by CCHS member (and logging daughter) Pat Blagen Bradley, and the Friends Of The Logging Museum. If you’re curious about early Calaveras logging, or have a story to tell...this beautiful setting in the tall cool pines is the place to be....
