Valley Springs, CA.....The entire Snyder family invites you to the 33rd Annual Pow Wow this weekend, May 2-4 at the Snyder Ranch in Valley Springs. With over 200 vendors of Rocks, Gems, Minerals, food, music and more on a working cattle ranch, this annual event has been a huge draw every year! Over the last 30 years the ranch has continued inviting "rockhounds" every May. Expanding to gems, jewelry, silversmithing, fossils, and many more of our earth's treasures. Returning vendors have become more than just "rockhounds:" Their pow wow family has extended to dozens of volunteers who help make every detail go smoothly. Their smiles and dedication make every pow wow a wonderful experience.....

GABA MIXER IS THURSDAY MAY 8TH....Our next mixer is coming up soon! We’re holding it a bit early this month. The Summer Season is almost upon us and it’s Frog Jump time already! Please join us at: PACIFIC STATE BANK IN ARNOLD (next to the Post Office) They would love to show of their newly remodeled office! THURSDAY, MAY 8TH, 5:30 TO 7:30. Frogtown, USA....We were fortunate enough to spend a few minutes with Frogtown's Marketing Director, Laurie Giannini. She gave us an update and a preview of this years Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee. The Fair Runs May 14-18 at Frogtown. This Year's fair features, County Singer Mark Wills, Real Ranch Rodeo, Calaveras Saddle Queen Competition, Miss Calaveras Pageant, Tuff Truck Challenge, Calaveras Idol, Destruction Derby and of Course The 2008 Frog Jump International Frog Jump culminating with the Grand Finals on Sunday, May 18th and much much more! Murphys, CA....Murphys Preschool would like to spread the word about a very special upcoming event, "Mom's Night Off!". Murphys Preschool is a non-profit, parent cooperative Preschool located in the Old Murphys Schoolhouse. Their school is operated by tuition and fundraising. They will be holding "Mom's Night Off" on Wednesday May 7th. You will love this....This fundraiser is a Drive Thru Dinner and Bake Sale! Dinner includes Chicken in a Barrel, Salad Pesto and Bread for $10 each. Pick up time is 4pm~7pm. Full flyer enclosed.

The History of The Frog Jump

In 1865, Samuel l. Clemens (Mark Twain) penned “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”, a tall tale of the life and happenings of the gold rush town, Angels Camp. The narrator details a story he heard in a tavern. It is about a frog, Dan’l Webster, who could out jump any other frog, and a man, Jim Smiley, who was the “curiousest man about always betting on anything that turned up you ever see, if he could get anybody to bet on the other side; and if he couldn’t he’d change sides.” Jim Smiley had bet forty dollars.....

Frogtown, CA...This years theme for the Calaveras County Fair is "Heard it through the Bovine." The Calaveras County Fair & Frog Jumping Jubilee will run from May 14 through May 18th. This annual family filled event will start off on May 14th with "Heritage Day" with specials on Hot Dogs, Root Beer and Carnival Rides from 4-7pm. The Saddle Queen Competition will be held at 1pm that day. The gates will officially open at 4pm......

Saddle Creek Resort, the gated, 900-acre Castle & Cooke community in the scenic Central Sierra foothills, will host the 47th playing of the Northern California Golf Association Senior Championship, May 5th and 6th. FORMAT: 36 holes stroke play, 18 holes per day. First starting time each day will be 7:30 AM. Contestants will play from the Black tees except on hole No. 14 where play will be from the Blue tee on Monday and White tee on.....
