Murphys, CA...February 14-15, 2015 – President’s Wine Weekend – The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance presents the 19th annual Presidents’ Wine Weekend at all 22 CWA wineries from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a great opportunity to sample the fine wines of Calaveras, celebrate with friends old and new, and take advantage of special discounts. With the purchase of a $20 commemorative wine glass, you are entitled to a free 'limited-tasting' flight at all participating member wineries, Saturday through Sunday. Full tastings will be available in each tasting room for an additional fee...
Murphys, CA...Columbia College Instructor, wine and food expert, Tom Bender hosts our tasting on February 19th. “We’ll explore both the historic and lesser known regions of Italy including Sicily, Puglia, Veneto, and Tuscany. A wine map of Italy can become complicated unless you appreciate it’s diversity. Not to mention it’s relationship to our favorite food culture.” Reservations are required, and seating is extremely limited. Wines of the World is an integral part of the wine associations educational program. Cost for CWA members is $15 and $20 for non members. The Historic Murphys Hotel hosts us in the Mark Twain Ballroom from 5:30 to 7pm....

Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Mountain is bringing live entertainment to the mountain all weekend long as part of the Bear Valley Winter Music Series. The lineup features free performances from a variety of talented musicians beginning Friday night and continuing through the weekend. The performers include Jank Tones, a band based in Sonora California consisting of bass, guitar and drums; Jeff Campbell, a rock musician who has shared the stage with John Mayer, members of Counting Crows, Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead, has opened for multiplatinum selling, multi-‐Grammy-‐winning band Train, and performed on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show; 10 String Symphony from Nashville, Tennessee playing progressive acoustic folk music; and Rachel Baiman, a Bluegrass fiddle/banjo player, singer, and composer based out of Nashville....

Columbia, CA...The next meeting of the Mother Lode Volkswagen Club will be held on Thursday, February 26th, 7 pm in the meeting room of Water Wheel Pizza Parlor in Columbia. We will end the meeting with a 50/50 raffle and everyone is welcome to participate & bring something small or inexpensive if you want (VW-related NOT required). Murphys Concert Feb. 15 Brings Back Beppe Gambetta

Murphys, CA...Guitarist Beppe Gambetta will sing and play a solo concert of “American Roots with European Passion” on Feb. 15 in Murphys. The concert will be held at the sanctuary of the First Congregational Church at 3 p.m., and marks a return of the internationally known artist who performed an all-American roots concert here last year. Gambetta, who plays guitar in a flat-pick style and sings a mix of U.S. and European folk music, tours annually throughout America and Europe, playing at music festivals and concert halls. The Washington Post critic said his performance “calls to mind what a duet by Doc Watson and Leo Kottke might sound like.” The BBC Scotland critic wrote his concert there was “exciting, varied, satisfying and just downright musical music..”...
