Angels Camp, CA...(Frogtown, USA)...Seven accomplished young women from across Calaveras County will compete for the title of Miss Calaveras County 2017 at 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 18 at the 2017 Miss Calaveras County Scholarship Pageant. These young women will participate in four phases of competition, including a personal interview, a health and fitness demonstration, a talent segment, and an evening gown speech.

Murphys, CA...The Calaveras Wine Alliance in partnership with the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Grand Tasting Wine event on Wednesday, May 17th to kick off the Calaveras County Fair and debut the newly improved wine pavilion located at the County Fairgrounds. The new event will highlight the winners of Calaveras Countys’ Best in Show, Double Gold and Gold Medal wines by offering tastings and delectable catered bites and appetizers provided by Lunch Lady Catering.

San Andreas, CA...Summer evenings never sounded as good as they do on Wednesdays in Calaveras County. For the 26th year, the Calaveras County Arts Council is presenting Music in the Parks, starting June 14 and ending August 16, every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. There’s an all new line up of local and not-so-local musicians, and one returning favorite. The popular program, which brings free toe-tapping tunes to the county, is part of the Arts Council’s mission statement to “support, nourish, and awaken the arts in our community.”

Jamestown, CA...Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) plans to treat moms extra special this Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 14, 2017 by offering excursion train rides behind a historic diesel locomotive along with a special surprise to all mothers who visit the Park (while supplies last). With beautiful wildflowers still in bloom, the six-mile, 45-minute roundtrip ride takes passengers through the rolling Gold Country foothills, passing through meadows and along grassy hillsides covered with ancient oak trees. For those wanting to treat mom extra special on Mother’s Day, the luxury lounge coach No. 2901 will be available on a first come, first serve basis. In addition to the relaxing train rides and eye-catching car, there are lots of fun, interactive and interpretive-related activities happening at the Park, including:
