Murphys, CA...Christmas Day brings a 34-year Calaveras tradition, a free community dinner hosted by Murphys Friends. December 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Native Sons Hall on Main Street in Murphys, it will be turkey with all the trimmings, and gifts for the young people. This tradition started in 1983 at the Utica Hotel in Angels Camp by Bob Bach, Richard Wilmshurst, Alan Corell and Renee Weaver Saletta. It now has about 40 volunteers, some who have been doing this for years.

Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Mountain opens for 7 Day a week operations today. The snowmaking team has been hard at work building the snow base and cold weather patterns should continue to support high snowmaking production levels. In addition to the base and beginner areas, the snowmaking is focused on Mokelumne West and getting a run off the top of the mountain open as soon as possible. For this weekend, we are confirming the following services and activities at Bear Valley Mountain! Panda Carpet, Cub Carpet, Terrain Park boxes near Koala, Sledding, Rock Climbing Wall, Cub Chair is tentative – stay tuned!

Our snowmaking team has been hard at work building our snow base and cold weather patterns should continue to support high snowmaking production levels. Bear Valley, CA...Paul Says Santa's Helpers have been working hard to put together some activities for Christmas weekend: Saturday (12/23) and Sunday (12/24), Tubing will be offered for 1 hour sessions from 9am to 4pm, Snowshoeing/Snow Biking on a nice selection of packed meadow trails (trail pass required) from 9am to 4:30pm, Morning Holiday Ice Skating from 9am to noon (ice conditions permitting), Meadow Cafe will be open from 11am to 3pm, Beginner Cross Country Ski Lessons for ages 9 & up at 10:30 & 1:30. (Sorry, there will not be any groomed cross country ski trails or xc ski rentals available until we receive more snow.)

Calaveras County Rotary Clubs Team Up for Santa's Express

San Andreas, CA...The 4 Rotary Clubs of Calaveras County joined together this weekend to deliver Christmas Dinners to those in need who live in Calaveras County. These Rotary Clubs raised over $6,000 to assist the Resource Connection in their "Santa’s Express" Christmas Dinner event, with the Rotary Clubs driving and delivering food all throughout Calaveras County for more than 200 families.
