The 13th Annual Gold Rush Writers Conference Presents An Evening with New York Times Best-Selling Author Karen Joy Fowler |

Mokelumne Hill, CA...The Gold Rush Writers’ Conference opens to the public its guest speaker event featuring Karen Joy Fowler, New York Times best-selling author of The Jane Austin Book Club. Fowler, the author of six novels and three short story collections has written literary, contemporary, historical, and science fiction. Her most recent novel, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, won the 2013 PEN/Faulkner, the California Book Award, and was shortlisted for the Man Booker. “It’s been years since I’ve felt so passionate about a book. When I finished at 3 a.m., I wept, then I woke up the next morning, reread the ending, and cried all over again.” says—Ruth Ozeki, author of My Year of Meats and A Tale for the Time Being. Arnold, CA...Dyemusica has been bringing original jam and reggae music to the motherlode since 2012. They have decided to disband due to health issues and as Kevin is leaving the state. Dyemusica are ardent supporters of local charities, have made original music and made many friends and they'd love for everyone to come out one last time to celebrate thier catalog of music and say goodbye to a Gold Country standard as they want to thank everyone for all the fun and memories!

Murphys, CA...Soroptimist International of Calaveras County is busy preparing for their 8th Annual Chili Cook Off held at the Historic Murphy’s Hotel on Saturday, May 5! Tasters and Cookers come together on the Hotel lawn for this fun event from 11 am to 2 pm with live music from Plan B Band! This year’s theme “Twisted, Silly or Gourmet Chili” promises great $10. Chili tasting.

Angels Camp, CA....(Frogtwon, USA)...This year the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee is May 17-20. Last night Mark Twain Hall at Frogtown played host to the annual fair kick-off dinner. It is a great event every year that is filled with awards for those who help keep the fair and frog jump thriving and viable. It is also time for the next generations of local youth and even an exchange student from China to introduce themselves and even kiss a few frogs.
