Angels Camp, CA...Be the first to taste the best-in-show, double-gold and gold-medal winners of the 2018 Sierra Foothills Wine Competition. The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance (CWA) in partnership with the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce and the Calaveras County Fairgrounds will be hosting a Grand Tasting Wine Event at 6pm on Wednesday May 16 in the Wine Pavillion at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. This event will kick off the Calaveras County Fair and recognize the accomplishments of the Calaveras County gold-medal winners by offering tastings of the winning wines as well as delectable catered appetizers.

Saturdays in Murphys - Walking Tours of Historic Downtown Murphys are available at no charge (donations gratefully accepted) on Saturday mornings at 10am leaving from the Old Timers Museum. Vallecito, CA...Formed in 2011, Trio Brasileiro quickly made a name for itself as an ensemble worthy of international attention. And, after four recordings and successful tours through Europe and North and South America, they are receiving more than their share of it. Among the many accolades, their 2017 recording with the brilliant Israeli clarinetist Anat Cohen, Rosa Dos Ventos, was nominated for a Grammy for Best World Music Album, and was named one of the top twenty jazz recordings of the year in the Downbeat Readers’ Poll.

Calaveras County, CA...Mountain Melody once again presents a musical celebration of the vernal equinox entitled "Friends and Music and Spring--Oh My!!" Their musical selections are sure to cleanse your winter burdened palates and bring lightness and joy to your life! The songs include "Jitterbug" from Wizard of Oz, "It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)" from Duke Ellington, "The Rhythm of Life" from the musical "Sweet Charity" and many other fabulous tunes. Mountain Melody Women's Chorus is known around Calaveras County for their beautiful harmonies and lush, blended tones.
Columbia, CA...Volunteer fire crews from around the western United States will take part in the competition, presented by Columbia Volunteer Fire Department Engine Co. No. 1. The muster parade begins at 12 Noon (Columbia time) on Main Street in Columbia. Other events include hose cart races, bucket brigade, skills completion, hand pumper contest. Admission is free.
