Murphys, CA...Independent Mercantile will be hosting our 2nd of 5 artist receptions of the summer at our Main St. store, the ND&X, July 14th. This reception will feature the work of another local favorite Thea Schoettgen. Thea finds beauty and inspiration in the panoramic views that surround her home in Bear Valley, CA and in those bright little moments whose compositions grab her attention. Finding inspiration in the near and far is her passion.

Markleeville, CA...(Ebbetts Pass Closed 5am to 3pm) Celebrating 38 years in California’s Alps (1980-2018) Recognized as one of the premier cycling events in the West. The Alpine County Chamber of Commerce invites riders to participate in the Tour of the California Alps – Death Ride®, while enjoying the magnificent scenery and warm hospitality of Alpine County! Registration along with the start and end point of the ride takes place at Turtle Rock Park just north (Hwy 89) of Markleeville, California. The five pass ride includes 129 miles and 15,000+ feet of lung busting climbing. You also have the option of riding one, two, three, four or five passes. For your safety, the first four passes will be closed at specific times to vehicular traffic.
Columbia, CA...Reserve the second Saturday of every month for Gold Rush Days at Columbia State Historic Park. You’ll get to see inside special exhibits, stores and residences not regularly open to the public. Docents in period attire will provide lots of information on the structure of their featured building, nature of its business and equipment, contents of store merchandise, or interior décor of family homes, along with history of the times for visitors. If you’re lucky, the gambling table will be set up on the boardwalk for everyone to try their hand at betting against a mining camp gambler. This event is free.
Arnold, CA...For all trails, it is recommended to carry water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a light snack. Remember to Leave No Trace: pack it in, pack it out! Good hiking shoes or boots are important, especially for more difficult trails:
