08:30 AM - 12:00 PM Arnold Rim Trail (ART) Volunteer Trail Work Day
Arnold, CA...All trail buildling mornings follow this pattern: Please meet at the US Forest Service Station in Hathaway Pines at 8:30 am. After a brief safety orientation by Jeffery Hilson, our Stanislaus Forest Service Trail Manager, we will car pool to the section of trail we will work that day.

Since it often gets warm as the morning progresses, please bring layers, gloves, hat, sunscreen, bug repellant, and water. Long pants are suggested as we encounter Poison Oak on occasion. If you have a favorite garden tool like loppers, bring those, but we will have tools for everyone.

Folks from eight to eighty-eight are invited; children should have adult supervision. We wrap up by noon, sometimes a little earlier. If you have another obligation that day, feel free to depart sooner as needed.

Volunteer Trail Building Mornings happen the third Saturday of each month from May through October

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Old Timers Museum Walking Tours Are Every Saturday at 10am.
Murphys, CA...Each Saturday morning the Old Timers Museum in Murphys offers a historical walking tour of Murphys. No reservation necessary. Meet at the Museum, 470 Main St, Murphys, across from the Hotel 10 am. Walk is 1-1/12 hours.

A stroll down tree-lined Main Street transports visitors back to the mid-1800s with buildings bearing thick stone walls, iron shutters and pastoral gardens with white picket fences. Once you experience the charm and hospitality of Murphys, the historic “Queen of the Sierra”, you’ll want to come back again and again!

Rich in Gold Rush History, Murphys today is a vibrant, thriving community of over 2,000 residents. Many of the surrounding hillsides are rich with the fine wine grapes grown in our area. Murphys offers wineries, art galleries, live theater, eclectic shops, fine restaurants, charming hotels and B&B’s as well as a multitude of outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities.

Murphys’ colorful past came alive in 1848 when John and Daniel Murphy established a trading post and gold mining operation in the area that is now their namesake. True entrepreneurs with the luck of the Irish, they were a part of the very first immigrant party – the Stephens-Townsend-Murphy families – to successfully bring wagons over the Sierra in 1844, paving the way for westward migration. John and Daniel’s cries of “Gold!” were among the first heard in California. It is reported that the brothers took two million dollars in gold ore from the Murphys Diggins in one year’s time, making them millionaires before the age of 25. The sizzling Gold Rush camp of Murphys also played host to President Grant, Mark Twain and Black Bart. And in some circles, to an even more famous chap – a young, inquisitive lad who literally changed the scientific world, Dr. Albert Michelson.

Our friendly residents invite you to revisit the past while exploring the “new” upscale Murphys. Guided walking tours of the town’s many historic buildings including the home of Albert Michelson, the first American Nobel Prize winner, are conducted every Saturday at 10:00 a.m., starting in front of the Old Timers Museum on Main Street.

12:00 PM - 03:00 PM The 25th Annual Murphys Duck Races are July 21st!
Murphys, CA...Whether wading in the creek scooping up ducks or just enjoying a fun-filled afternoon in the park, kids of all ages love the Murphys Duck Races, part of Murphys Homecoming. This year’s event takes place Saturday, July 21, from about noon to 3pm in Murphys Community Park. From 1pm to 2:30pm, there will be three different “races” in Murphys Creek. The Duckling Race kicks off at 1pm, with $3 tickets to vie for a chance to win JoMa’s ice cream, Angels Theater movie tickets, or a gift certificate to Murphys Toy Store. The Quacker Race starts at 1:30pm, and tickets are $5; winners in this event take home prizes like ice cream, movie tickets, or Starbucks coffee. The finale is the Golden Goose Race at 2pm, in which $10 tickets put contestants in the running for golf at Greenhorn Creek, fine dining at the Murphys Hotel, a gift from Quyle Kilns, and a flat-screen TV.

After each “heat,” all the kids help corral and collect the hundreds of rubber duckies that have been floating merrily downstream.

To make the races fair for everyone, winners are randomly selected from among all “duck purchasers” during the race. Tickets are available at select times in front of Sierra Hills Market or online at calaverasmentoring.org.
The Calaveras Mentoring Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for youth mentoring in Calaveras County. Funds from the Murphys Duck Races directly support the safety and success of matches in the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program.

The Mentoring Program is currently seeking mentors for girls and boys throughout Calaveras County. If you are interested in learning more about the Mentoring Program, visit calaverasmentoring.org or call Katie Lackler at 209-736-6078.

Isley Brothers
3The Isley Brothers have basked in the forefront of popular music for nearly 50 years. Their incredible career has seen dozens of #1 hits, both singles, and albums; more than two dozen gold, platinum and multi-platinum singles and albums; countless awards; and the Brothers’ induction into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame (in 1992). What’s even more remarkable –and further indication of the Isleys’ lasting cultural significance –is how they’ve reinvented themselves with each passing year, thus consistently reaping a fresh crop of fans. They are a bridge between today’s most vital pop artists and the soul greats who brought the music out of the church and into mass consciousness. Acknowledging their place in history, Ronald Isley says: “I knew Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson and The Temptations. I knew their intimate thoughts on music, and I knew them as friends. The Isley Brothers are in a unique place now because we possess that repository of knowledge, and we carry it on through our new material. Ernie and I understand what a tremendous opportunity and responsibility that is, how special that is. The Lord has truly blessed us, and we continue to be led to a greater place.”Through this calling, the Isleys have influenced myriad artists. Contemporary R&B and hip-hop stars have frequently paid them tribute by sampling and covering their material. “We’re beyond old school,” Ernie jokes. “We’ve become an institution –I think we must be at the university level by now! The Beatles, Aaliyah, Biggie Smalls, Ice Cube, Whitney Houston, Public Enemy, Bone Thugs and all the other people who’ve mined our catalog –they’ve come through Isley University. And we, in turn, embrace everyone who has recognized our work and honored us this way.”

The Commodores
For three decades, the Commodores have remained a force in the music industry. The Commodores aren’t just any group. They have staying power. Just like their hit song “Brick House,” the Commodores have created a foundation that just won’t budge. After churning out hit after hit in the Motown days, the Commodores still hadn’t achieved Grammy recognition. This wasn’t to be until 1986, without Lionel Richie, when the Commodores released “Nightshift”.

In 1968 the group was formed while all the members were in college at Tuskeegee University. After being discovered by Berry Gordy, the Commodores went on to sell over 60 million records for Motown. With hits like “Machine Gun” and “Sail On,” the Commodores became proven artists. They proved it then. They proved it in 1986 with “Nightshift,” and now they are ready to prove it again.

Unlike many other groups, the Commodores haven’t rested on their early hits. Quite the contrary, the Commodores have continued to put out quality work. With the creation of their new label, the Commodores released Commodores Hits Vol. I, Commodores Hits Vol. II, Commodores Christmas, and Commodores XX – No Tricks. The newest CD “Commodores Live” was recorded during the groups 1997 U.S. tour and released in December 1998 along with a TV special. The Commodores believe in their work, but they are not the only ones:

The successful Commodores of the present have not only produced six new albums and embarked upon a world-wide tour, but have created their own record label, Commodores Records & Entertainment. Today the Commodores stand not only as talented and successful musicians but as artists determined to continue their success into the future.

The Family Stone
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, R&B Pioneer Award Winners, and original founding members of Sly & The Family Stone; Jerry Martini and Greg Errico, together part of the first inter-racial inter-gender, main-stream major band in Rock & Roll history bring you the chart-topping hits of Sly & The Family Stone.

Legendary Anthems like “I Want to Take You Higher,” “Everyday People,”
“Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin,“ “Dance To The Music,“ “Hot Fun In The Summertime,“ “Family Affair,“ “Sing a Simple Song,“ and many other instantly recognizable tunes from their vast catalog of albums including the album “STAND“ which in 2015, was declared a National Treasure, preserved in The United States Library of Congress. In 2015, “STAND“ was also inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame.
07:00 PM Legendary Rock Band Pablo Cruise – Bear Valley Music Festival, July 21 at 7 PM
Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Music Festival is proud to present the real and authentic rock band Pablo Cruise. The group is among the most renowned rock bands formed in San Francisco back in the day, including Santana, Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead. The band is currently composed of David Jenkins (guitar and vocals), Cory Lerios (keyboards and vocals), Steve Price (drums) and Larry Antonino (bass and vocals). Formed in 1973, the band released eight studio albums over the next decade, during which time five singles reached the top 25 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

08:00 PM Sat. July 21st - Misner & Smith - Sutter Creek Theatre - Sutter Creek, CA
Sutter Creek, CA...Soaring vocal harmonies and story-filled, poetic songwriting - Misner & Smith's sound harkens back to the bedrock of modern American rock & folk. With two singers who could easily lead a band on their own, Sam and Megan produce a sound that is one voice, seducing listeners with music that captures longing and belonging in the same moment. It is an extraordinarily full sound for only two people, and for this special show Misner & Smith will be joined by their full band, featuring Josh Yenne on pedal steel/electric guitar and Joe Shotwell on drums.

Misner & Smith’s music is a search for meaning. The songs yearn for connection, ache for understanding, relish in mystery, and rejoice in creation. In a world that often feels to be crumbling down around us, they dig deep, and find hope in simple things, in the beauty that surrounds us all.

With their latest release, Seven Hour Storm, Misner & Smith have created an album of vivid, poetic songwriting, filled with some of the finest harmony singing around. Working with producer Jeff Kazor (The Crooked Jades, Richard Buckner) and engineer Bruce Kaphan (David Byrne, REM, The Black Crowes) they have penned an album with lush, yet subtle arrangements, filling out an already rich sound that the duo is known for producing live.

Seven Hour Storm has the same timeless quality as some of the classic albums in folk and rock, and while there are certainly stand out songs on the record, this is an album that begs to be listened to from start to finish. Each song is a story, a journey, a place, a time, an experience. There is nothing general in the songwriting, nothing vague. The imagery is sharp, and the lyrics plumb the depths of emotions with an ease and honesty that is personal and at the same time universal. But this isn’t an album of words only—it is filled with melodies and harmonies that at once sound familiar and new, matching the lyrics every step of the way. The voices lock in together, and without disappearing into each other, they soar with power.

With more fleshed out arrangements, and added instrumentation, the new record is a logical progression for Misner & Smith. Their music has never been easy to classify or pigeonhole into one genre or another. They’ve lived in between the lines for years. In many ways, this is continuing what they have done from the beginning, and listening to Seven Hour Storm will only make the listener want to hear what came before. This path leads back to their previous releases Misner & Smith Live at the Freight & Salvage (2010), Poor Player (2008) and the duo’s debut album, Halfway Home (2004). All three of these albums are a testament to the strength of their partnership, and draw from the same well as their newest offering, with a pared down feel of the duo at its core: two voices, and two instruments—which is where it all began.

It was an entirely different art form that brought these two together in the first place. Having separately studied and worked for years as actors in theaters around the country, they met for the first time at a Shakespeare festival in California in 2002. Though the seeds for their future collaboration may have been planted then—in an outdoor amphitheater surrounded by the poetry and prose of Shakespeare and Chekhov—it took two more years for the musical bond to
