Independence Hall Community Center - History

Independence Hall Community Center, Arnold, California, was officially established in 1974. From its inception, the Hall has served as a non-profit, non-tax-supported community facility for the Ebbetts Pass area. Originally, the Hall was the Avery School, a one-room elementary school with a divider creating two classrooms.

The attendance area extended along California Highway 4 from Camp Connell nearly to Murphys. The first function to be held in the building was a school Christmas program in December, 1941. The school was rededicated in 1964 as Hazel Fisher Elementary School in honor of its first principal and teacher, Miss Hazel Fisher. Following construction of a new Hazel Fisher Elementary School, the original building was signed over to the Ebbetts Pass Wonderland Association and in recognition of our nation’s bicentennial was renamed Independence Hall. The Hall was dedicated and remains this area’s community center.

05:30 PM Don't Miss The Dead Winter Carpenters at Brice Station July 8th
Murphys, CA...Brice Station’s Hilltop Venue is located four miles past Murphys, on the way towards Arnold, on Highway 4. Look for the old red truck at the bottom of the driveway – and head up the road past our tasting room and Quyle Kilns Pottery. You should be greeted by our helpful parking staff then head up towards the barns to our box office tables. On Saturday, July 8th is the Dead Winter Carpenters. “Hailing from North Lake Tahoe, Calif., Americana band Dead Winter Carpenters has built a reputation for pouring their heart and soul into each performance. In just a few years, they have positioned themselves, wrote Portland Metronome, “at the forefront of a youthful generation trying to redefine what string music is and what it can do.”

That progressive nature comes through loud and clear – from instruments plugged and unplugged – in the band’s new release, Washoe (February 26, 2016). The band’s fourth studio project, the 12-song collection of originals was recorded in Reno’s Sierra Sonics Studio (Ozzy Ozbourne, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Collective Soul) and co-produced by Dead Winter Carpenters and Zachary Girdis.

The band’s previous albums include the group’s 2010 self-titled debut, Ain’t It Strange (2012), and the much-acclaimed Dirt Nap (2014), of which CMT Edge wrote, “With one listen to Dead Winter Carpenters’ ‘Easy Sleep,’ you’ll get a strong sense of where this California band is coming from.”

Reminiscent of genre-benders like Jack White, Chris Thile, and Sam Bush, Dead Winter Carpenters harmoniously blends refined musical ability with a scarcely restrained tendency to let it all hang out. The result is a controlled burn, a riveting sound, and a connection with fans that sells out shows and has the band sharing stages with the likes of Jason Isbell, Greensky Bluegrass, and Hard Working Americans.

Members include Jesse Dunn (acoustic and electric guitars, vocals), Jenni Charles (fiddle, vocals), Dave Lockhart (upright and electric bass, vocals), Bryan Daines (lead telecaster guitar, vocals), and Brian Huston (drums, vocals).”

“Doors” typically open at 5:30pm for concerts.

Seating is “festival style”. Plastic adirondack chairs are available on a first come, first serve basis, and we recommend you bring your own low back chairs for seating on our lawn. Feel free to walk around the venue, but please stay inside marked boundaries. We are a working operation that includes a lot of hazardous equipment and steep terrain. Feel free to dance your heart out anywhere on the lawn!

Wine, wine cocktails, sodas, water, farm-to-table dinner and desserts are available for purchase. Feel free to bring your own food and non alcoholic drinks with you, but please clean up after yourself and take full advantage of the trash and recycling cans.

Our Farm-to-Table dinners will be provided by Tyler Waterman and Waterman Farms – fresh organic vegetables straight from the Brice Station property! There will be vegetarian options available. Call for more information.

Please do not bring any outside alcoholic beverages. Just don’t. Not only do you hurt our feelings, but it is not permitted under our alcohol license and you could get us in lots of trouble with the gub’ment.

Feel free to smoke in designated areas only.

Concert tickets will be available online in the coming months.

If you have any other questions, or just want to chat, feel free to call us at (209) 728-9893 or send an email to info@bricestation.com
06:00 PM Join Milliaire for their July Patio Party!
Murphys, CA...Join Milliaire for their July Patio Party! This is one of their most popular events of the year, so purchase your tickets NOW!

Milliaire Winery is a small family-owned winery founded by Liz and Steve Millier in 1983 in the cellar of their former home in Murphys CA. In 1990, the winery moved to an old Flying A gas station on Main Street in Murphys. The whole building was utilized for daily operations; barrels stacked in the repair bays, wine tanks in the backyard, bottling in the front yard and the tasting room in the office. There were jokes about what was in "those tanks" and a friend of the Milliers' dubbed it the "Roadside Chateau". Following their dreams of making premium wines from the Sierra Foothills, today Milliaire Winery has expanded and occupies over an 8,000 square foot winery with a dedicated barrel room and modern crush pad facility. The Milliaire Winery tasting room still resides in the old "Roadside Chateau" at 276 Main Street. Learn more about how Liz and Steve met!

The Winemaker

In 1975, Steve got his first winemaking job at David Bruce Winery in Santa Cruz after graduating from Fresno State with a degree in enology with an emphasis in viticulture. He knows the science and art of winemaking and grape growing from the ground up. After over 40 harvests, Steve is still exploring, learning and, most importantly, having fun in the winery. He is part alchemist, part artist and part farmer. The rest of us are fortunate to enjoy both his company and the fruit of his life's work - great bottles of wine! Read more about Steve's long winemaking career.

Event occurs on 06/28/2017 from 05:30 PM to .

Pine Leaf Boys Bio

The Pine Leaf Boys have made a name for presenting their own inimitable brand of Louisiana music with youthful exuberance. Hailing from the southwest Louisiana, the Pine Leaf Boys, known for their wild shows and thoughtful arrangements, have breathed new life into Louisiana music, reviving ancient songs and bringing them to the bandstand. Being described in the New York Times as, "... the link that connects the young and the old generations," and, "the best new, energetic, and fun Cajun band in a very long time," the Pine Leaf Boys play the old fashion dance hall standards while making a priority to bring many of the more obscure songs of past masters into their repertoire and play them with gusto.

The variety and energy they release evolves through their shows, bringing multi-faceted angles to Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco. Their mission is to present the beautiful, powerful music of their ancestors and present the real Cajun music to the world and prove that it is still thriving and full of life. The Pine Leaf Boys have preserved the traditional Cajun sound, while allowing it to breathe and stretch with those who play it.
