11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Mark’s Twain’s 88 Days in the Mother Lode
Jim Fletcher, drawing from his current book, Mark’s Twain’s 88 Days in the Mother Lode & Stories from the Gold Rush, will delight visitors to Manzanita Arts Emporium during April with stories and insights about America’s foremost humorist whose story about a certain frog put Angels Camp and Calaveras County smack-dab in the middle of the national spotlight in the 1860s and catapulted its author to fame.

Starting on Saturday, April 16 and regularly visiting on most Saturdays thereafter, Fletcher will give you the scoop.
An enthusiastic devotee of the Samuel Clemens/Mark Twain history and legend, Jim Fletcher presents the story of the eighty-eight days Mark Twain spent in the Mother Lode, his association with the Gillis brothers, and some of the legendary writer’s notes and excerpts from that time period. Fletcher’s book is rich with the adventures and misadventures that led up to Twain’s stay in the Gold Country, and his fruitful time spent gathering material in his “Notebook Four.”

These FREE “Twain Talks” (11 am to noon) with Jim Fletcher every Saturday in April will highlight stories about and by the man who did not hesitate to follow his own writing advice to “get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.”

Starting on Saturday, April 16 and regularly visiting on most Saturdays thereafter, Fletcher will give you the scoop. Manzanita Arts Emporium 1211 South Main Street, Angels Camp, CA 95222

05:00 PM Spring Gala for Shakespeare on the Vine Theatre Company
After a significantly successful first season of wine and The Taming of the Shrew, the resident theatre
company, Shakespeare on the Vine at Brice Station Vineyards in Murphys, CA will return for its
second summer season. The troupe will present William Shakespeare's beloved comedy, As You Like
this summer, and to start the season off, the company will celebrate with their annual spring gala.

"The success and scale of last summer's The Taming of the Shrew was possible because of the generous
support of Calaveras County residents and businesses," said, Tara Kayton, Producing Artistic Director of the
company. "We are thrilled to have the support of the Calaveras Community Foundation and other generous sponsors, the commitment of professional artists from across the United States, and look forward to
providing professional classic theatre to the residents and tourists of Calaveras this season.”

The public is invited to the Spring Gala on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Ayrael Vieux Winery located at 1690 Monge Road in Douglas Flat starting at 1:00pm. The French countryside picnic will serve delicious
cuisine provided by V Restaurant with multiple wine pairings. The silent auction promises to include
art, vacation packages, and beautiful gifts from all over California. The talented Jill Warren will play
music for the event and actors will be there to answer questions about the Theatre Company and season.

"The artwork of French painter Toulouse Lautrec has inspired this summer's 1900s French production of As
You Like It." Kayton said. "Brice Station will be transformed into a sultry cabaret where a live band will
serenade the audience as Shakespeare's play will wrestle with the delights of love, the malleability of the human experience, and city life versus country life.”

The gala costs $75 and includes wine, food, and entertainment, with all proceeds supporting this summer’s production of As You Like It. Information on the gala, As You Like It, and other ways to support can be found at www.bricestation.com/events/shakespeare or by following Brice Station Vineyards on Facebook.

06:00 PM The Whiskerino Dinner Dance Is April 23, 2016
Angels Camp, CA...(Frogtown, USA)...The Friends of the Calaveras County Fair are hosting a Hoe-down, Show-down. The Whiskerino Dinner Dance is planned for April 23. The dinner dance will be the official kick off event leading up to the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee May 19-22. The Whiskerino has a fine historic tradition in Calaveras County. Although the whiskerino dates back to the 1940s it was revitalized in the 1950's and held for the next forty years. In 1955 Bob Petithome, Angels Camp resident, won the award for best full beard. He says the best part of the event was seeing "all the slick chins" try to grow beards. The event marked the month long Jubilee celebration. Originally held at the Gun Club adjacent to the Fairgrounds, men and women donned their best gold rush attire. However the biggest draw was the actual whisker competitions.

unnamed (23)
The Whiskerino will be on April 23 at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Mark Twain Hall. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $20 per person or $150 per table. The price of the ticket includes admission, dinner and entertainment. Tickets will be available at the Fair office. The Friends of the Calaveras County Fair is a non profit organization comprised of members dedicated to both the history and preservation of the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. Funds raised at the Whiskerino benefit the Friends of the Fair and the Calaveras Junior Livestock Program. For additional information contact the Fair office at 209-736-2561.
07:00 PM Maple & Vine At Black Bart Playhouse
Jordan Harrison’s look at our yearning for the “good old days”, “Maple and Vine”.
An urban power couple has become allergic to their 21st-century lives. After they meet a charismatic man from a community of 1950s re-enactors, they forsake cell phones and sushi for cigarettes and Tupperware parties. In this compulsively authentic world, these two 21st century transplants are surprised by what their new neighbors – and they themselves – are willing to sacrifice for happiness. Maple and vine plays Fridays and Saturdays at 7PM, and Sundays at 2PM April 15 through May 15th at the Black Bart Playhouse. Click here to purchase tickets.
