Jackson, CA...“Introduction to Vegetable Gardening in the Foothills” class on February 1, 2020. Growing your own vegetables can be fulfilling and downright tasty! Learn what vegetables grow well in the foothills and how best to care for them. Join the UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County for their free Public Education class, “Introduction to Vegetable Gardening in the Foothills” on Saturday, February 1, 2020. The many micro-climates, in the foothills, challenge gardeners with variations in temperature, water needs, soil quality and pests. This class will provide a great basis for planning and cultivating a productive and vibrant vegetable garden. Handouts will be provided. This class is free and open to the public.


Reservations are not required. All classes are held in the GSA Building at 12200-B Airport Rd. in Jackson from 9 a.m. until Noon.

09:00 AM The 34th Annual Orient Express Run
Sonora, CA...“The Sonora Sunrise Rotary Club is proud to continue sponsoring the 34th Annual Orient Express Run in Chinese Camp, come rain or shine to raise money for Special Olympics. Over 150 “Special Olympians” take part in the Tuolumne County Special Olympics program participating in track and field, floor hockey, basketball, the state games and other sports. “These activities contribute to their quality of life, personal growth, and provide an opportunity for them to be actively engaged in competitive sports and recreation”, says Dave Thoeny, president of the Sonora Sunrise Rotary. “These activities greatly contribute to an improved quality of life for everyone in the program”, adds Thoeny.


Sonora Sunrise Rotary will close Hwy 120 between Sims Rd and Red Hills Rd on Saturday Feb. 1, 2020 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am for the: 34th Annual Orient Express Run. Traffic will be detoured onto Sims Rd and Hwy 49. Where: Chinese Camp School, One mile run at 9:00 am., Four mile run at 10:00 am. Register on line at “SonoraSunriseRotary.org”

See's Candy Booth will be open for Valentine's Day in Angels Camp. Calaveras Door of Hope Pregnancy Center is running the booth as a fundraiser for 2 weeks - opening on Feb 1st. We are located in the Calaveras Lumber parking lot on Main Street.

Bear Valley, CA...In the winter we open the Meadow Cafe located 350 yards from the trailhead. Skiers, snowshoers, and pedestrians access the cafe on groomed trails and enjoy “alpine cuisine” on the deck or cozy indoor seating. New for the 2019/2020 winter season, a special Après-Ski menu is served Thursday through Saturday from 3:30-6:30pm.

Two-time GRAMMY® Award Winner Bill Champlin is known the world over as the soulful singer/keyboardist of the iconic jazz-pop band Chicago. His featured spots on the hits “Look Away” and “Hard Habit to Break” are among his mainstream highlights. But his Songwriting put him on the map and the band he started in the late 60’s called “The Sons of Champlin.”
In 1979, he won his first Grammy® award for co-writing “After the Love is Gone”, which was later recorded by Earth, Wind & Fire. Then in 1981, he won a second Grammy® for co-writing “Turn Your Love Around” for George Benson.
The Sons of Champlin released their first album, “Loosen Up Naturally” in 1969 and followed with six more albums through 1977. In 1982, Bill joined Chicago to record Chicago 16 where he remained for 28 years as lead vocalist/keyboards. In 1988, Chicago released its biggest-selling single and their last No. 1 hit, “Look Away,” featuring Bill on lead vocal.
