Norm Kestner Passes Away

Arnold, CA....Sequoia Woods Country Club owner and Arnold resident, Norm Kestner, passed away on November 17th, 2008, near his family in Santa Cruz county. He was eighty-six. As well as being one of the country club’s directors, Norm was a lifetime member of the Arnold Rotary Club, was active with the Greater Arnold Business Association and served on the board of Mark Twain Hospital in San Andreas. Norm was an involved person who was well-liked throughout the community....

Norm came to California from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his family when he was a child. They settled in Pittsburg, California, in Contra Costa County.

He was a man of many hats. After graduating from the College of the Pacific in Stockton where he met his future bride, Patricia Connolly, he taught at Mount Diablo High School in Concord. He served in World War II , co-owned Stockton radio station KWUN, was the mayor of Concord in the early sixties, and was a member of the Concord Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife Pat moved to Arnold in 1980, where he eventually became involved in the world of golf. (Pat Kestner passed away in 2001.)

Norm was an energetic and upbeat person with an easy smile. He loved the arts, spiritual and intellectual conversation and good humor. He was generous to his employees and often helped others in need. His motto was “Happiness is a decision.” Norm will be missed by many.

He is survived by his son Robert and daughter-in-law Jeanne Kestner of Concord, daughter Ginny and son-in-law Dan Tracy of Watsonville, brothers Max Kestner of Mountain Ranch and Jack Kestner of Folsom, five grandchildren, and one great- grandchild.

Private funeral services have been held but a celebration of his life will take place at Sequioa Woods Country Club in early January 2009. Call 795-1000 ext. 1 for details.
