Thefts in The Twain Harte Area
Twain Harte, CA.....On November 09, 2008, Deputies Lowry and Hobbs were dispatched to several reports of Auto burglaries and thefts from vehicles in the area of Twain Harte in the Tanager Drive area. There were approximately 8-10 vehicles that had been tampered with. Approximately 4 of vehicles had items taken from within.....
While conducting their investigations into the thefts, Deputy Hobbs was able to develop information on possible responsible persons involved with the thefts. Deputy Lowry and Deputy Hobbs diligently worked non stop throughout the day conducting interviews and a very thorough investigation. Between the two, they were able to locate and arrest three juveniles responsible for the thefts. They were also able to recover most of the stolen items and return them to their rightful owners.
The three juveniles, two, sixteen year olds and one, fifteen year old were transported and booked at Tuolumne County Probation.
This is a reminder that Vehicle burglaries and thefts are mostly a crime of opportunity. Keep yourself from becoming a victim; here are a few tips:
Lock your vehicle- Remember that an unlocked vehicle is an easy target and an open invitation to a thief. This includes keeping windows rolled up completely.
Park in a well lit area- this will usually deter a thief from making your vehicle a target. If possible park your vehicle in a garage.
Use anti theft devices such as car alarms and steering wheel locking devices.
Remove personal property from your vehicle- don’t leave cell phones, GPS devices, purses, laptops and bags such as backpacks and gym bags- Remember that these thefts are a crime of opportunity.
Engrave and photograph your personal items- having your serial numbers documented and the item engraved helps identify your property.
If you see any suspicious activity, be sure to contact your local Law Enforcement Agency. In the county areas, call Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office at 209-533-5815.
For any crimes in progress, call 9-1-1, do not take action, you may become a victim yourself. Instead, be a good witness. Get the description of the subject to include clothing, height and build.
