Susie’s Diner in Arnold - a “Wheel” Cool Place to Eat!~By the PineTree Pedaler, Brett Loring

Arnold, CA....Motor on up to the newest old-fashioned diner in town! My son had heard there was a new place in town to secure a good old-fashioned ice cream cone. That was enough excuse to venture out on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We struck it rich at Susie’s! He chose a double-scoop of mint chip on a plain cone from the list of flavors that includes bubble gum, birthday cake and chocolate chip cookie dough. Although I relaxed in the dining room....

with a good cup (or two…or three…) of coffee while he enjoyed his frozen treat, customers may also walk up to the front counter to order a sundae, milkshake or a malt.

Nestled in Arnold’s quaint Cedar Center, Susie’s décor includes Route 66 and Elvis memorabilia as well as classic artwork by local artists, and signage reminiscent of 50’s service stations and historical automobiles. Her brothers’ interest in classic autos and car shows, including Cedar Center’s own classic car events, inspired the hot-rod and motorcycle motif for Susie’s Diner. In the front window the two-wheeled showpiece, a BMC Bobber 88 draws customers’ attention as they approach the malt-shop style entrance.

With 30 years of local culinary experience including time at Cordell’s in Arnold, Susie Huntsinger along with her husband Bob opened up the diner, aptly titled by her own namesake, on October 17. Susie indicated that they have kept fairly busy since the grand opening and already have a set of “regulars” as indicated by a rack of personalized coffee cups on the wall of mugs.

Open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Susie’s menu features breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the specialty being homemade hamburgers of which there is a variety, and of course fries. Zoom on over to Susie’s Diner for a down-home meal and that nostalgic hamburger joint/malt shop ambience: 1308 Oak Court in Cedar Center, Arnold. Fax in your to-go order for convenient pick-up, 795-4166 or call for more information, 795-5156.
