Ebbetts Pass Winter Closure Gate Relocation

Markleeville, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be relocating the State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass winter gate closure currently at Raymond Meadows up to the State Route 4/89 Junction in preparation for this week’s atmospheric river event.

The State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass winter gate closure relocation is scheduled for Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with no current estimated time of reopening. Caltrans maintenance crews will evaluate State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass after the storm event for snow removal and reopening the highway back down to Raymond Meadows.

Caltrans strongly recommends motorists avoid travel as much as possible during atmospheric river weather events. Winter weather and road conditions can change rapidly in the Sierra Nevadas. Motorists should expect hazardous conditions, carry chains, use caution while driving in winter conditions, and watch for icy road surfaces in the overnight and early morning hours. For more helpful information on winter driving conditions click on the link below:
https://dot.ca.gov/travel/winter-driving-tips

For the latest road and traffic conditions go to quickmap.dot.ca.gov or download our QuickMap app to your mobile phone. Motorists can also tune to the Caltrans Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) at 530 AM, 1610 AM or 1670 AM or call the Caltrans Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623) for highway updates.

For the safety of workers and other motorists, please Be Work Zone Alert and Move Over to give Caltrans snow removal equipment room to work.
