Nine Hole Scramble and Horse Race, Benefit the Calaveras Community Association ~By Hanna Alldrin (Corrected)

Angels Camp, CA.....This afternoon over 60 people registered for the inaugural Nine Hole Scramble and Horse Race at Greenhorn Creek in Angels Camp. The new event is a fundraiser for the Calaveras Community Foundation. We spoke with J Shoop from the Calaveras Community Foundation and he shared, "we are excited to announce this event and we would like to make it an annual event." Each player donated $100 to play in the non-tournament, raising $6,000 just by entries......

The tournaments largest sponsor was Jackson Rancheria of Jackson.

Dennis Dalton and Derek Dalton from Jackson Rancheria teed off at hole one during the event.

During the non-tournament, players were introduced to a new twist on the traditional scramble format with an exciting, alternating shot competition to determine the event champions (known as a Horse Race).

The scramble rules: each player teed off each hole. The best of the tee shots is selected and all the players played their second shot from that spot. The best of the second shots was determined, then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed.

There were also two money holes during the scramble. Hole number three was the circle of trust, winning double your bet between $5-$10. The second money hole was hole number eight. Hole eight was closet to the pin. Winner closest to the pin wins raffle tickets and a special bonus prize.

The most exciting part of the event is the horse race. The horse race is an alternating shot competition. Each team will take turns hitting the ball one after another until the ball is holed. The first place team wins $50 per player, the second wins $20 per player, and the third team wins $10 per player.

After a long day of golfing and prizes players will get to enjoy a wonderful and delicious dinner prepared by Camps at Greenhorn Creek. The Calaveras Community Foundation would like to thank all the participants for helping build a better community.
