Calaveras Experiences Increase in COVID-19 Cases as New COVID-19 Formulation is Authorized

San Andreas, CA...COVID-19 cases have steadily increased in Calaveras within the last month. The county is now experiencing case rates almost three times higher than this time last year. More information on Calaveras County COVID-19 data can be found at the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) covid.ca.gov.

On September 11th, the Federal Drug Administration authorized the use of the new COVID-19 vaccine formula that protects against the most recent variants. Calaveras County Public Health will be ordering the new COVID-19 vaccine formulation once it is made available through California Department of Public Health. COVID-19 vaccine appointments will be available to people who are uninsured. People with insurance are asked to make an appointment with their primary care provider or utilize local pharmacies.

Community members of all ages can help in preventing the spread of COVID-19 this season. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends taking the following steps:
• Stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations
• Get tested if you are feeling sick
• Follow CDC guidance if you test positive for COVID
• Follow guidelines for what to do when exposed to COVID
• Seeking treatment if needed
• Wear a mask if you are sick
• Wash your hands

Calaveras County Public Health’s Epidemiologist and Informatics team shared, “Vaccination is our most powerful tool for preventing serious illness, hospitalization, and death,” Waqqas Hanafi, Health Education Specialist. Epidemiologist, Maryam Yekta, adds, “Follow public health guidelines to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission: vaccination, mask-wearing, social distancing, hand hygiene, and staying informed.”

Symptoms can appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
Look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19. If someone is showing signs, seek emergency care immediately:

You can’t make me take that stuff; I’m a patriot. Oh, Calaveras, you’ll be losing loved ones once again.

You no longer need to go without a mask. To show your support for Donald J Trump. He is already toast.

‘Tis flu season again. Cover your cough. Wash hands. Stay home if you don’t feel well. Avoid introducing foreign agents into your body. (I’m not taking international spies, here.)
