Citizen Aids Children Through Sheriff's Office

Calaveras County, CA...The kindness and generosity of a Valley Springs resident will make life a little easier for children in stressful situations. Melanie Barnhart, an active grandmother of five, has donated her collection of several dozen new Beanie Babies to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office. The toys will be distributed by the Department's Patrol personnel to children in circumstances where a little comfort makes a big difference, such as accidents, criminal investigations or domestic....

upheaval. "Her thoughtful contribution to our 'Teddy Bear Patrol Program'
means that many children in traumatic situations wil not feel as alone or
frightened," said Pat Ross, Community Services Representative for the Sheriff's
Office.

Mrs. Barnhart and her husband have been Calaveras County residents since 1986 and their four children were locally raised and graduated from Calaveras High School. She enjoys working and her fellow employees say that her helpfulness and concern for others has earned her a nickname. She's known as "the Starbuck's Mama".

Ms. Barnhart stated that she hoped donating her collection to comfort children in need would encourage others to find a way to help those less fortunate.
