Warren Alford Has Been Named New Executive Director of The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association
Arnold, CA- The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association (EPSBA), today announced the appointment of Warren Alford as its new Executive Director. Alford is a fourth generation resident of the Sierra whose background includes nearly 15 years of working in the non-profit sector. “Warren has a deep family history in the area and the enthusiasm and experience to help us make great things happen,” said Calaveras County Supervisor, Merita Callaway. “This is going to benefit both Calaveras and Alpine Counties.”...
The Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway Corridor Management Plan (CMP) provides the vision, goals, and management recommendations for protecting and enhancing a 58-mile portion of State Highway 4 referred to as Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway.
“We are excited to begin implementing projects that will increase the visibility of the Byway and enhance the region,” said Michelle Plotnik, President of the EPSBA. “Having a new Executive Director will help us promote the Byway as a unique community asset.”
Initial priorities for the new Director include increasing promotion for the off-season activities in the Ebbetts Pass area; developing more consistent signage on the byway and beyond that reinforces the byway image; building a stronger membership program; and planning the first new interpretive site to foster a greater understanding of the history, culture and ecology of the Ebbetts Pass region.
“Developing interpretive sites along the Byway will enhance the experience for visitors and locals alike,” said Alford. “Everything we do to increase access to our natural assets will improve the quality of life for everyone.”
A 2000 study found that tourism spending in Calaveras County was $187 million. Travel spending supported an estimated 4,600 jobs and $8.3 million in state and local taxes were collected. Scenic Byway designation increases visitor spending and creates new jobs.
“The effect of national scenic status ripples through the economy drawing visitors and businesses, increasing opportunity for everyone in the community,” said Alpine County Supervisor, Terry Woodrow. “With the selection of a new Executive Director, the Byway Association is poised for progress that will have a dynamic impact on our region.”
About the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association: The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association formed in 2006 as a non-profit corporation to preserve the unique scenic, natural, historic, cultural, archaeological and recreational resources of the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway and to enhance the quality of the travel experience along one of the last surviving wild Trans-Sierra routes.
Through the spirited partnership of individuals, businesses, organizations and agencies, the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association coordinates and implements preservation, enhancement and marketing projects consistent with the goals of the Ebbetts Pass Corridor Management Plan and is dedicated to maintaining the byway's integrity.
