John Edward Richter Jr. 1947 - 2023

Murphys, CA...John Edward Richter Jr passed away February 2, 2023 at the age of 75 from lung cancer. John was born March 15, 1947 in Redding Ca to John Edward Richter and Louise Jones. He graduated from Enterprise High School, Redding, in 1965. After graduation he was invited to join the Army and was a gunner in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1968. He moved to San Jose, making close friends, most notably Judy his wife for 54 years.

He attended Foothill College, graduating with honors, and spent a few months working on their home and being a stay at home Dad. In the spring of 1978 he began working for PG&E in San Jose as a Meter Reader and quickly moved to Supervisor. Always loving the mountains, they built a house in Forest Meadows and transferred to PG&E in Angels Camp in 1982 where he read meters until he retired in 2010. He loved animals. Because of this their home was a refuge for many foster dogs and cats waiting for homes, with some finding their forever home with them.

His pride and joy was his family first, then what he and Judy had created over the years with there home. John is survived by his wife Judy, daughters Deana Richter (Murphys), Debbie Donahoo (NC), granddaughter Lyla Snyder (NC), grandson Mondo Garcia (NC), great-granddaughters Sienna and Kinsley Snyder(NC), and great-grandson Silas Garcia(NC), sisters Connie Richter (ID) and Jackie Rhodes (ID).

So sorry to hear about John. Both John and Judy love animals, and gave lots of volunteer hours to the animal shelter in San Andreas. The animals have lost a true friend!
