Mr. Frog’s Wild Ride Returns to Feeney Park in Murphys

Murphys, CA...Mr. Frog’s Wild Ride returns to Feeney Park in Murphys on Saturday, May 7 with three all-new bicycle rides that are challenging, exhilarating, and take you through some of the most beautiful countryside in the world at one of the most beautiful times of the year. And after the ride, there will be a party in the park with barbecue prepared by Chef Laura Lowell and a crew of Feeney Park volunteers.  Live music will add more fun to the day.

A fundraiser for Feeney Park—a community resource managed and supported solely by volunteers—Mr. Frog’s Wild Ride went dark due to the pandemic. This year the Feeney Park Board of Directors want to bring the ride back to real-time, and they want to do it in a big way. Local cyclists Keith Maurer, Peter Maurer, and Motherlode Bicycle Coalition board members Rob Williams and Carl Baker scouted three new routes that loop from Feeney Park into the foothills and mid-elevation up-country that surround Murphys.

Each of the three rides are challenging to some degree, with remote routes on a variety of road surfaces, heart-thumping climbs and winding descents, all on back roads that emphasize the wildness of Mr. Frog’s Ride. Williams, who is organizing the ride, advises that while a SAG wagon will be available to rescue worn-out cyclists, riders should honestly assess their capabilities, and that, once on the road, “ride slowly and enjoy yourself. It’s a ride, not a race.” Of course, e-bikes provide a welcome boost and are perfectly acceptable on this ride.

Along the way, riders will find fully-stocked rest stops; restrooms will be available. All rides return to Feeney Park, where an after-ride party will include barbecue and live music.

The event owes its success to volunteers who do everything from check-in, to food prep, to ride safety. Board member Susan Lyneis extends an invitation to the community to participate in the event. “If you’re not a rider, but you’d like to volunteer or sponsor the ride, we’d love to have you,” she says. “It’s a great group of people. Sometimes it’s more fun to be a volunteer than it is to ride.”

Register in advance for Mr. Frog’s Wild Ride online at www.mrfrogswildride.org. Or you can register the day of the event between 7 and 9 a.m.

However you choose to participate—as a cyclist or a volunteer—you’re bound to have a wonderful, wild time!

The definition of Flatlander:

Anyone who lives and works in any area of California south of Copperopolis,CA. Typically worthless to the human race and are more relatable to the common locust then humankind. Flatlanders mate and their offspring is raised spoiled, rude, and disrespectful to their own environment or any environment they travel too. Known to leave their trash everywhere and a belief that they do not have to follow the law because they are from the bigger cities. Equally worthless as their parents.

Use the term Flatlander in a sentence: Stay in the bay flatlanders you are not welcome or wanted north of Copperopolis,Ca.
