Traffic Stop by Tuolumne Sheriff's Deputies Leads to Arrest for Drug Sales
Sonora, CA...On Tuesday, at approximately 1130 p.m., Deputy Sorini pulled over a white Chevy Tahoe on Stockton Street in Sonora for multiple vehicle code violations. Deputy Sorini conducted a records check of the three occupants of the vehicle and found that the driver of the Tahoe, 55-year-old Janet Weissbeck, had a misdemeanor warrant for her arrest, and one of her passengers was on California Department of Corrections (CDC) parole.
Deputies searched the Tahoe and found several items of drug paraphernalia and a 9 mm round of ammunition. A records check of Weissbeck showed she had a prior felony conviction and was not allowed to possess ammunition. Deputies searched the occupants of the vehicle and found a small bag of methamphetamine in Weissbeck’s pocket.
Deputies searched the passenger, 59-year-old Richard Garris, and found a pouch hidden inside of his sock. Inside the pouch, there were four grams of methamphetamine, a small bag containing about three grams of heroin, nearly one gram of fentanyl, and empty bags for packaging. Harris also had a digital scale. Deputies found text messages and statements from Garris on his cell phone that showed he was in possession of the drugs with the intent to sell them.
Garris was arrested and booked at the Dambacher Detention Center (DDC) for possession of a controlled substance for sale. Weissbeck was arrested and booked at the DDC for being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, and an outside agency misdemeanor warrant.
